What is the best way to have 30+ hcaps in Comps.

Thanks to all the experts, you haven`t solved the problem of the moaners but at least now know what can or cannot do, your contributions are very much appreciated.

Is there any evidence to back up the moaners claims? Have 30+ handicappers been routinely walking off with "the pot"?

Likewise at my place...I've not seen evidence of 30+ handicappers sweeping all before them which is why I asked the question of the OP.

I think we had 9 or 10 golfers allocated handicaps higher than 28 at the annual review at the beginning of the year. Of the 8 that I can find in the system today, 2 have never played a qualifying comp.

The remaining 6 players have played 65 qualifying rounds between them, they've shot net differentials of between -4 and +21. Three scores were good enough to receive cuts in handicap (-2 and 2x -1), 14 were in the buffer zone and the remaining 48 incurred 0.1 increases. One player hit 7 0.1's in a row and got a 1 shot continuous review increase.

One player has seen his handicap drop from 32 to 30.8, one from 29 to 28.7 and the other 29 handicapper has dropped to 28.9. The other three golfers all hold higher handicaps than at the start of the year.

Sure there were plenty of doom mongerers at our place at the beginning of the year....but their fears were totally unfounded.

I’ve seen a nett 52, nett 55, and my mate who I got into golf shot nett 57 this season alone.

30+ handicaps need to be handed out to those who physically won’t be able to get less than a 28 hcp.
To be shooting 30 + you need to be either brand new to the game this week, 80 years of age and knackered or missing more than two limbs.

OMG... that's embarrassing all ways around.....

30+ choppers are usually women, so separate the women from the men's comps. Nevermind:rolleyes:

You are clearly not aware that the increase in handicaps to 54 applies to both sexes.

Where I play their are currently 20 ladies with handicaps 30 to 54 and 23 men with handicaps 30 to 54.

Given that other posters with considerable experience in club administration report no issues with 28+ handicaps, perhaps your issue lies with your handicap committee.

You can't really categorise like that. To have a handicap of any level from +4 to 54, you just have to be returning scores that indicate the level you need - whatever your age, sex or physical condition. It's essentially an arithmetical matter. As Rosecott says, if there are anomolous scores whether unreasonably high or unreasonably low, look to your handicap committee.

I`ve still got all my limbs rest of it applies but still don`t need more than one shot a hole

I'm not troubled by someone, whatever their handicap, having their daft day, their day in the sun. It happens and perhaps we should just be glad for the member concerned.

I recollect my day in a long-ago sun when I netted a 64 off an 18 handicap. Long ago? Must be nearly 25 years ago and the last time I won anything of any import. Cut by 4 strokes, it took me ages to climb back up to a realistic handicap.

This season saw one of our own members, aged 69, win our Seniors Open with a net 62 (SSS 70). Nothing unusual in his scores before that and nothing unusual afterwards. Just his day in the sun and no he is not a high handicapper: he was off 8 when he had his daft day. (It was fun to see his expression when he handed his card in - a mixture of proud delight and some embarrassment.) :)

One of our sprightliest octogenarians, now 84, has slipped to 12 but he was still off 4 when he turned 70.

None of that is to make a particular point. Just me rambling on a bit.

When we did the review in March one guy was increased to 39. He won the next swindle with 42 points* (39 points being to handicap). We have one other guy who has moaned about him ever since despite the fact that from his competition rounds he has gone up even further. This guy has never moaned about all the other guys in the swindle who have shot 42+ points during the past few years.

* I have played in this swindle for 12 years and it was the first time he has won anything.
