what is it with PING??

:D i work for a very well known stairlift company , might suggest to the md that if you buy a stairlift you get a set of pings free, should boost sales :D

To the OP, as I've stated before this is an attitude that I've only ever experienced on this forum and only from the uninitiated. My take is

Ping - Solid brand, great gear.
Mizuno - Primo's who think they are better than they are.
Callaway - Old men / choppers
Taylor Made - Swayed by publicity and gimmicks.
Titleist - Usually a good player who can get the most out of them (note the word USUALLY).
Nike - Stick to trainers.
Wilson - Who?

Any other stereotypes out there people want to share?

For me, Ping irons are like 'Sally Gunnell' - not the best looking but damn effective!

I have an i15 driver (11 deg stiff) by the way which is the best driver I have ever got my hands on. But I am in my 40's. Thinking about going back to more ping kit.

Matt

Wilson - Who?

One of the oldest and most respected golf club manufacturers. Makers of some of the all time classic clubs - blades as well as GI. I think they have won more majors than any other brand (think they have just pipped MacGregor for that thanks to Harrington). Choice in their day of Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead, Nick Faldo (before he went to Mizuno), and Bernhard Langer and many, many other top players.

By the way, the Ping thing. Only ever noticed it on here. Just thought it was a bit of fun at the expense of some of the guys on here who use Ping gear. No one thinks its serious do they?

All in the past though and they seem to be slowly going towards the Slazenger / Dunlop route, sad and I hope I'm wrong but they have been struggling.

Not sure how you can say Wilson who? Iconic name and producer of more major winners than other make. I think whilst the Ping = old mans club is perhaps more of a sterotype these days it certainly use tobe the case but hey they produce some damn fine gear and if you like it and can use it - go for it. Anything that makes the game easy to play and lets face it Ping are easy to hit, is a big yes in my book

But at the end of the day they are a business and they are not selling well at the moment. What I meant by the Dunlop / Slazenger comment is I can see someone buying them for the name and churning out cheap garbage in the future. Spalding anybody? The "Who" comment was supposed to be tongue in cheek as was most of the post regarding the different manufacturers.

Wilson - Who?

Wilson make a lot of fantastic clubs. They get overlooked because of brand snobbery. Probably about 90 percent of amateur golfers have clubs that dont suit their game. They just think the will look good if they have all the latest expensive gear.
