Or perhaps better stated as How many is a consistent swing?

Its often referenced in posts, seems like it’s the ‘thing’ to have in your golf game but I’ve never seen it qualified

Is it measurable & if so is it a personal measure or worse is it just an aspiration

For most I guess the obvious way to validate a consistent swing would be the resulting action of the ball in distance & direction but to be a consistent swing is this 9 out of 10, 20/20, 50/60...?

(remembering that quality is not a factor in consistency)

I do not think you have to hit every green and fairway to have a consistent swing. I have played with people who consistently slice the ball off the tee:whistle:

If I hit my pitching wedge - it goes 85 yards -90 yards - not to far but I can count on it each and every time -oh and it will be 10 yards
Left or where I think I'm aiming -it does this consistently so I always aim ten yards right of the pin - as I go up through the clubs there are more fats and thins involved blah blah blah

I will get me coat

Something that repeats? It doesn't have to be pretty but if it repeats, you will have a pretty good idea where the ball will finish.

Consistent swing is a swing that you develop through practice and instruction from a golf expert. If you have no problem with your swing consistency, then you are likely to produce good scores in the game. It is measurable depending on a golfer's height and body build, for example, I stand about 5'4" so I position myself farther from the ball that I'm going to hit. If I stood around 6 feet tall, I would position myself closer to the ball. That way, both swings will result in an upright plane.

For me inconsistency is more the type of shot than the quality

i.e trying to play a miracle shot between two trees instead of chipping out sideways

That to me is more inconsistent as the results are normally poor

Consistency in the pure sense can only be measured by a trackman etc.

The ability to hit greens time after time is not just down to a consistent swing. An inconsistent swing can find more greens than a consistent one out on the course, with all the associated variables.

One swing 14 clubs. I believe it is meaning that you do not rip one club more than the others. One tempo, one path, one impact position. All that leaves is is alignment and the correct club.

I would like all of the above please. I play a game with myself every night where I try and flush 10 shots in a row, when I do pull it off they are all with a very (what seems) slow swing and ends up being the fastest ball speed of the night.

I don't think there are many players who want to be consistently rubbish so I'd say there must be some measure of quality involved, albeit not necessarily a perfect strike.

Of course consistently rubbish is less desirable than consistently good,, so in that sense yes quality is there because you can have a poor quality consistent swing or a good quality consistent swing...but both are still consistent

Its probably harder work to have a poor quality consistent swing than it is to have a good quality consistent swing. Could you slice an approach shot 10 out of 10 and land them all within a similar landing area or is it easier to just land 10 on the green :-)

A consistent swing for me is all about the distance im hitting each club.
Lets say a pitching wedge-if i hit 10 wedges all 120 yards, that to me is very consistent.
If i hit the same 10 shots and they are between 100 and 130 yards, that to me is inconsistent.

Surely any swing that produces the same shot shape on a regular basis is consistent? If I hit a 30yd slice every time I hit the ball, then my swing would be consistent. I wouldn't like it, but it would be consistent.

So a consistent swing is somewhere between a regular basis & every time, any way we can fit a tighter ratio to consistency, given how many of us strive for this in our swings?

A consistent swing is simply 1 that repeats itself over and over again.

It can be the most horrific looking swing ever or as good as Rory's. But as long as its the same swing consistently each time the result should be consistently the same each time.

Consistent - capable of being reproduced; "astonishingly reproducible results can be obtained"
reproducible.
Inconsistent- not regular or predictable; erratic

Interesting seeing peoples take on a consistent swing. For me I see a good consistent swing as this.

It is a swing that can hit any club accurate on a regular basis. I would expect around 7/10 shots to be hit with the accuracy and distance that you expect to hit the chosen club. (After all the tour pros do not hit it perfect everytime.)

It is a swing that can stand up to playing in all weather conditions.

It is a swing that can stand up to pressure and does not fall apart on you when the going gets tough.

I do not think it has to be the prettiest swing on the course, but if it works that is all that matters.
