we get an interesting emails each week from the Official World Golf Rankings that show how the rankings might change under certain scenarios

This week could be a big one if in...

...Dubai
Kaymer wins he’s World Number One unless Westwood is second alone.
Kaymer second alone he’s World Number One if Westwood is out of Top 10
Kaymer second with one other he’s World Number One if Westwood is out of Top 36

Otherwise Westwood stays at World Number One.

Woods could pass Kaymer and go back to World Number two if:-
He wins and Kaymer is outside the Top 5.

...at the AT&T
Mickelson could pass Woods if he wins the AT&T and Woods is not 1st or 2nd alone in Dubai.

Mickelson needs tied 3rd with one other or better to have a chance to pass Woods.

This could happen at pretty nearly any of the big tournaments this year. It's great, as when a certain gentleman was No.1 for ages, it got a bit boring. Now there's some uncertainty it makes it more interesting. Could be several No.1s this year.

Do your seat belts up, we're in for a bumpy ride.

do people actually pay attention to who is no.1 anyway. Obvioulsy we all knew woods was as he was so consistent, but the only time i really took notice of the standings is when a brit took number 1.

It may come across strange, but who is no.1 has no relation to my game, my friends games or our enjoyment of the sport.

What if Tiger misses the cut?

Can I rip the pish out of him or will my post be pulled? ;)

I reckon none of the Dubai 3 will be in the top 3 but it would be great to see them fighting it out.

For sure, but its just an interest thing. if you support some of the players and they are doing well its nice to see.

It was interesting listening to sky sports pundits at the weekend. They were pointing out that as Tigers current position is largely based on his form 2 seasons ago, that he is in quite a precarious position. A continued run of form like he had last season and his ranking could plummet. Not beyond reason to think he may drop out of the top 50!!

That doesnt suprise me, whats more scary is when you looked at a summary of last years wages he coined in as top earner by a large amount even though he's form is toilet at the moment. It seemed a large amount of he's wages are from royalties from video games and so on, not from actually playing good golf.

maybe once he is outside the top 50, Mike will let us have that caption comp back up. it could have been a corker ;)

Continued good play by G Mac, Eduardo Molinari, Dustin Johnstone, Ricky Fowler and Matteo Manessero could see them all really benefit in the rankings this year as their current positions are very heavily based on their 2010 form and not 2009. Some others up there Lee, Rory and Martin all had strong years in 2009 and will loose lots of those points this year, so will need to play well to maintain position. I think these 3 will continue playing well this year however.

still think the whole process is silly. World Number 1 should run from the last qualifying match of the previous season to last qualifying match of the current season. Oh, and on points not winnings because that skews the result,

someone who has nothing else to do can work out who is the real Number 1.

The rankings certainly make great viewing,in the fact that there are so many senarios. After having a no1 for so long in Tiger, its nice to have a few more contenders.I really hope Lee can stay there, but i feel Kaymer will take it soon,to me he just has the edge.

Both Denis Pugh and Tony Johnstone were discussing the fact that Tiger could be outside the top 10 very shortly and they wouldn't be surprised if he was!
