Well the weather wasn't that great, my score was ok but nothing to write home about and I didn't hit a single GIR. But I feel I've come out of the weekend with a lot of positives. My putting is improving (thanks again Bob), my course management was better, my driving was solid and I played a medal round in tough conditions without losing a ball or picking up a penalty (a first for me).

The course is getting a much needed watering and I'm having a bunker lesson on Tuesday (Achilles heel) so all in all I'm in a very happy place.

So despite the adverse weather did anyone else take anything positive from the weekend...?

Yes, my footjoy waterproofs were well worth the money, 4 hour drenching, bone dry!!

yup
i fixed my driving again
and my chipping is back to being solid
but i still couldnt score!
so i learned that every shot counts - dont waste any ;(

Not that the weather was poor, but I've learned that I can get it around quite well using nothing longer off of the tee than my 3 hybrid.

As I said in the weekend thread, if I could have putted better on Saturday I could have shot an 85 quite easily.

positives - my G10 driver seems to have cured my slice, used it 5 times and not a single one! (may well look for a 3 wood and 3 hybrid now)

I also realised how crap my short game has got through not playing much/practising of late. Playing FoA this Saturday so may well be practice every evening this week.

I was invited to play with a 4 ball in a doubles match play format.

The lads I was playing with play off 6,10 and 13 so I was eager to see how they play the course differently to myself. I learned quite a bit from the lad off 6, especially about course managment and where and where not to take risks and more improtantly why.

Nothing Earth shattering but definatley opened my eyes on a more efficient way to play our course.

Oh......... and shot 4 under my handicap (Match finished all square)

Yes,

A bad back is bloody annoying when you can't get out and swing, practice or play and that there are loads of good deals on gear on the net to be had. Clothes and shoes will be my undoing

Took loads of positives from the weekend. I hit one wild drive all day, which didn't end up being too destructive. This time last year I wouldn't have been able to say that. Infact, I wouldn't have been able to say that 3 months ago!

My putting has improved ten-fold over the last 12 months.

I also find it a positive that my short game woes were highlighted. Wasn't comfortable at all with a wedge in my hand for most of the day from 50 yards and in. I shanked a couple, chunked a lot and thinned a few. Hit a few nice ones too, but all in all very inconsistent. Just need some work on the range grooving the swing on my pitches and chips but I'm glad I found out about it now!

I pulled just about every iron I hit and knocked it round in +4.

Positives are there, just need to work on a couple of things and I actually think I had the ball too far back in my stance yesterday.

Another big thank you to Bob for his putting tempo clips from last week.

I can't stress enough how helpful that was. Didn't have to think about anything in the stroke other than a slow takeaway... the result was a lovely roll, on line and far simpler to judge distance by just varying the length of backswing.

The result? 26 putts in the round. A good few were 10 footers for par, but knowing I was putting well made me more relaxed on chipping as well, so scrambling was excelent as well.

Shot 74 gross, 5 under handicap and took the swindle with 41 points

And the new irons went like a dream.

Anyone still struggling with putting, have a look at those clips.... which I can't find for the life of me now! Anyone still got the link?

Didn’t learn anything per say, just reiterated something I already knew. That I shouldn’t hit balls on the practice ground ever!

We had a 3 man team event on Saturday and the weather was fantastic, and had been all week. Not been playing much as a lot of work on.

Anyway went to the practice ground with a bag of balls, long story short, Shanked every one of them. Walked off and didn’t even bother to pick the practice balls up.

There is nothing like walking onto the first tee thinking of the Shermans!!!!

Shot 34 points at the weekend but could easily have been more. Never lost a ball, no penalties and no blobs.

Quite a few 3 putts and a few shanks though.

Putting was so bad I was trying all sorts to try and rectify it, had a eureka moment on the 12th green. Got a bit more distance between my elbows which seems to help the takeaway be more stable.

what i learned . . im geting bored with my home course , maybe its because we got to play every weekend over winter this year & the excitement of finaly getting to play again isnt there .. im missing that "cant wait for the weekend feeling" somehow ..

Also learned the shot out of our new bunker sand (excessive filling) i hit 3 weeks ago must have done some damage as my wrist is still sore ,,

Need to feel the love for golf kick in again sooooon .. apologies for the negativity

I learnt my swing is not ingrained yet, no pushes or pulls just two thins and a fat. The rest were perfect shape and contact.

Missed two putts I should have holed (straight and under 3 feet), one was for birdie on the last too! One poorly aimed driver lost me a ball and lead to a quad!

Ended up shooting 8 over par round a 9 holer, not bad when I get 6 shots and it was my first time out on a "proper" course. So bar one hole I was 4 over for the other 8, plenty of positives really!

I have a lesson tomorrow and will ask why I have started fatting and thinning a few shots as well as look at my driver alignment!

Having pulled a muscle in my chest last week and drugging myself up to the eyeballs just to get out for 9 holes on saturday I learnt I really dont need to swing for my life... Due to feeling the twinge everytime I swung the club I relaxed and slowed things down.

Cant wait to get back to fitness and try again!

Also after reading Rotella books - Staying in the present is absolutely massive to my game!

I was still sore from wednesday' chest/tri's session in the gym when I played on saturday, hurt every time I swung a club (my triceps are still tight now, 5 days after the gym!!), but I was swinging and hitting it ok. I was pleasantly surprised.

That when my driving is decent my scores are decent. I need more bunker practice (took 3 to get out of one!!) and that my putting practice is starting to kick in a little.

Also never give up on a hole - rescued a couple with dismal 7's but still shot 4 under H/C overall.:D
