What Have You Been Working On

Piling mat, loading tippers and eep drainage tmrw.

As for golf absolutely nowt. Just play when I can and enjoy the course and company.

I'm always practising putting and still room for big improvement there.

Recently I've been working on pitching 50-75 yard sort of distance and getting much more confident attacking the pin from that range.

Tonight was woods and driver, trying to eliminate the hook that's been creeping in. Fingers crossed that was sorted so we'll see how it goes in the medal tomorrow night!

Working on a Tiger-2000 hip turn. My impact position is really good, but then I slide which can result in weak pulls. The increased hip turn gives me more clubhead speed which translates to more distance and more consistent strike. Find it a hard move to get right, but when it works I hit these lovely high bomb draws, need more practice!

More power in the full shots, especially with the driver, through engaging the core more. Peter Finch also tried to get me using my lower body more and get a better separation of hip and shoulder turn, but I put that on hold for the moment, because it completely messes my swing up.

Putting ... I realised I am losing way to many shots just to bad putting. I get at least 3 or 4 three putts every round.

Distance control in the short game.

Last week worked on my iron striking as was hitting it poorly. Pretty much sorted that out now, went back to fundamentals and smoothed my swing out.

Now addressing the weakest part of my game which is under 100 yards and chipping.
My wedge play has got a lot better and seem to be giving myself more putts from that range.

Chipping is so hot and cold its frustrating, Saturday in the comp I couldn't chip for toffee, last night I nearly chipped in twice and got up and down 3 times in 9 holes.
Spent 30 mins after my round on the chipping green, practicing little bump and runs with my 52, a shot I really struggle with.

Working mostly on trying to stop taking the club away on the inside as it has been a real issue this season and causing my iron play to be poor.

Bunker play has been rubbish as well, so making some time to work on that also.

After starting the season ok I went on a pulled hook and hooking spree which ruined a majority of the good comps. Shame really as the short game has been on great form but that's no good if you can't get into position to take advantage. Almost eradicated the hook this last week by introducing more rotation into my swing with the shoulders and chest, completing the turn into the backswing nicely and then rotating through without driving the hands too much. Nice high draw seems to be the result.

There's a couple of Order of Merit events left and the county open to play for at least but I've missed the boat tbh.

I'm in a transitionary year, having changed my swing over the winter and most of my bag since. Despite a run of buffers and a few 0.1s, I have no fear in saying I am a better golfer than I was last year. There have been moments where it's all come together and it's glorious, playing golf to a level I could've only dreamed of last year, but the consistency is missing. As the season has progressed I've become more comfortable with my distances and less tied up with swing thoughts, its starting to become natural now. I've not been able to play as much as I like with work but I've got a run of about 7 comps in the next 2 weeks and I'm relishing the opportunity to bring it all together and just play golf without the shackles of mechanics.

Bring it on.

Working on trying to get on course by myself for 2-6 holes or so twice a week. Time is limited and comps have meant I'd stagnated - enough to get by, but not improve. On the range I can relax and let the clubhead do the work but on the course with different lies, conditions, angles etc. this was more difficult; practice on course with no pressure to score has seen me found a few things, namely how to trust the swing and not force it.

Working on getting my swing path more neutral rather that out to in.

I'm finding that if my wrist are set properly at the top of the backswing (flat, not cupped), the swing path seems to sort itself out and the fades/slices become straight shots or draws. Trying to embed this to my driver swing first and foremost and then will sort my irons out as my current swing path isn't as destructive with the latter.

Also working on correcting my aim and alignment, which seems to have crept to the right somehow, a bit silly seeing as my miss is already to the right.

Not the greatest of season so far. Going to see Barry on Monday to see where I am at. Think I've hit a wall in terms of how far I'm gonna get without putting in hours and hours of practice and playing and it's time I ain't got....

Really enjoying working the ball both ways at the moment. Its probably to my detriment.

My home course has holes that suit both shapes and hitting a strong draw like I was doing earlier in the year was killing me.

Im pretty certain with work I could hone and nail down a fade, but the draw is to good to give up.
