So if you hit 3 balls into the farmers field over a hedge on a tee box and your 4th makes the fairway apart from crying how is this scored?

For each additional ball after the first, you count the extra stoke and add a penalty stroke.
It's called 'Stroke & Distance'

Though that did not make my buddies first six holes on Saturday stableford total of ZERO points any the easier for him to bear...and off 12 into the bargain... Though no worse than two over nett did ease the pain a little (when we pointed it out to stop his tears) of another mate and his 9, 14 start on Sunday.
