What do you look for in a driving range?

I no longer go to a range that is less than 3 minutes from my house due to mixed poor balls, 100% mats and noise from too many kids.

I travel out of Coventry to the Warwickshire GC with indoor and outside range facilities so I can drive and strike off grass, not worn mats with silly rubber tee's at heights that do not suit me. They (The Warwickshire) also have an excellent putting & chipping area and good sand in the bunker/s.

I think the more you can match the conditions and lies to what you may encounter on the course the better the session and the more you will get out of it. I know I have improved greatly since not going to the local range off mats only in bays and setting up on grass no different to how I would on the course.

Hot girl behind the counter. And marker posts 20 yards shorter than the actual distance

'Wow, I can hit my 7 iron 175 yards, in the winter, with crappy balls. Man, I must be good'.

you have to pay upfront?

Ha! :D

I was thinking more along the lines of requiring a comfortable set up, with a pristine playing surface so when you finally decide to swing the shaft you can admire the flight of your shot into the distance.

(Apologies for that, made myself wince with it)

Everyone says at times I'm too quick, the same would probably apply

Good shout Gareth will be visiting that range when we get back although still unsure where we'll be living exactly, has to be within 30 mins drive of Stafford for HiD.

I use two ranges, I use the one at the club most as I can play off grass but if I want to go at night I use another. Neather of them are all that good but both have balls and targets and that is all I need. Its location for me really, I want it close.

Yeah got a few bookmarked to see how they fair for being Open over the next two months, whereabouts you do you play?

I play at a small course in the Blythe Bridge area. I'm was considering moving to Barlaston GC in the new year but it has a tendancy to flood and has been closed quite often this year.
