What do you get from golf?

Past time , fresh air & good company , also a game that i can still compete in since the Soccer , Gaa , & kickboxing gave me up .. what i like about an individual sport like golf you get back what you put in , you do the work you get the results ,

Just a get away from everyday life. Just switch off and enjoy. Is does not really matter if I'm playing well or bad. But would prefure the former, not going to beat myself up about it though. It would be counter productive. Right need to do a few hours pratice now this minute not later, but now, now I say.

Bad back, bad shoulder, load of totally undeserved stick, all for the pleasure of hitting the odd good shot. Wouldn't miss it for anything.

Working from home, if I didn't get out to play golf I would turn into a recluse like Howard Hughes without the money.;)

The camerarderie of being in a club

A pastime that I can play with people and friends of all ages on a level playing field

An outlet for my slightly obsessive nature and love of buying shiney new gear

A fine collection of knitwear that ordinarily I wouldn't dare to wear in public

Playing a sport that will see me well into my 70s if I'm lucky

Some amazing experiences and great memories

The opportunity to swear and laugh at myself and to kid myself I'm exercising.

Also a challenge and a sense of achievement, the opportunity to meet new people and some time outside in the fresh air. It's also one of the rare occasions I'm actually thinking about the task in hand. When I'm doing anything else, I think about golf.

That feeling you get when you flush a perfect iron shot into the green, or sink a putt from 20ft, or knock your drive to the A1 position.. Nothing else in Sport feels the same (and i've tried em all). The closest I ever got was diving an unregistered mark off the South Coast and seeing a wreck for the first time. It feels beautiful, serene, effortless.. I love it... I just wish I could do it more than once a round....

The humour. ie four blokes hacking round playing rubbish and then shaking hands at the end and saying "well played"

Didn't know you played in our Saturday roll up!!!

To be fair though it really doesn't matter how well you played (well maybe a bit then) there is always something to cling onto even if thats just the atmosphere post round in the 19th. If I took all my bad rounds to heart I'd have probably given up years ago. My partner might be looking for a new pursuit come the winter knockout on Saturday but hopefully he'll continue his good form and pull me through.

Its not ever day you get to play with someone who's a better player than you, with a lower handicap, and totaly
lacking in humour, but you still beat him cos hes crap..

Some quality time with the outdoors and like-minded people. I'm normally more relaxed and happier after a round (even if I've had a shocker!)
