• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

What do you do when the wheels come off?

There you are on the 10th tee, level par gross and you start to plan the winning speech.

I'll let you know if it ever happens! :)

If I'm going to have wheel problems, it'll hit me early on, my wheels tend to tighten up on the last 6-12 holes of the course.

Believe me its even worse when you're standing on the 16th tee in that position and finish 5 over!!

You're not wrong,mate.

Last week, standing on the 15th tee i was level par then proceeded to finish +8. Bogey, double, treble, double. 2 of the remaining 4 holes were par 3's. Good job it was only a friendly knock.....

Do what I did today - pack up after 9 and go and play the par 3 course instead - more difficult to lose balls.

Wheels came off on the 1st.

Then the 2nd

And the 3rd

Birdied the 4th

what wheels I had left vanished after that......

I find The wheels come off if I get too involved in conversation.

I usually try to withdraw myself slighlty and concentrate on making easy strokes taking out all the trouble and making a few solid pars. That way I get the confidence to start attacking again, never really works out that well though.

I agree that if the wheels come off it is usually a bad grip under pressure. If they totally come off, I usually start thinking about a nice hot shower, a sandwich and a few beers. And of course, "there's always next week" to look forward to.

My wheels came off so badly about 3 weeks ago, I'm ploughing a furrow down the fairways at the moment.........

Went back to quiet legs and a half swing on Wednesday evening, lost a lot of distance but hit a lot straighter, popped 19 points in 9 holes with one blob. Much better than the 21 point over 18 holes with 8 blobs last weekend.

Bob's advice is sound, hope I can maintain it for my first comp of the year on Sunday.

I finished 6,6,6 (double, treble, single) after standing on the 16th tee +7 an + 5 respectively on the Friday and Sunday medals. Once was forgivable but I repeated the same errors and played the second round shot for shot from almost the same places
