• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

What do you 'do' other than golf?

season ticket holder at Reading, as is my daughter and one of my mates. We go to a few different away grounds each season as well.

Go to rock gigs with my daughter, and petrol head events like Goodwood, Wings and Wheels.

Still play 5-a-side.
Liverpool season ticket holder - who'd a thought?
Anything between 4-6 gigs a year - this year got Iron Maiden, Madness at Wirral rocks, Specials earlier on.
2-3 hols a year with the missus, pooch and clubs - Trieste, Verona, Copenhagen already booked in.
3-6 golf breaks a year - Sunningdale, Northern Ireland, and poss a few more for this year.
Only go out on a good night out about 1-2 times a month these days.
Got a cards and whisky night sorted for this weekend with 5 mates.
3 games of golf a week for 6 months.
Love going on nice, longs scenic walks - wished I could do one a week.
Art galleries, museums, castles, stately homes all get a regular outing.
Meals out, reading books.......drinking pina coladas, and having walks in the rain.....

Dead boring now, used to do loads more in my 20's and 30's.;)

I brew beer.

It takes some scheduling to ensure that a Saturday brew day doesnt coincide with a Sundays golf over the same weekend, as a brew day will easily be longer than a round of golf... even when the after golf beer time is taken into account the post-brew clean-up exercise makes a brew-day much longer.

I've won more awards for my beer in the last couple of years in various competitions than I have won prizes at golf. Maybe I need to sell my clubs.

Work mostly, which thankfully, I love.

Other than that, squash, racketball, cycling, mountain biking, hiking, wild camping, shooting, fly fishing, snowboarding and amongst all that being a Dad to a 10 and 13 year old.

Golf was huge for me as a kid but then played second fiddle to just about everything else for years and now that has reversed. Golf is my number one pastime at present. I have a renewed love for the game and I think this is primarily down to being a member of such a fantastic golf club - it really is brilliant and full of great people.

Lastly, have always been a closet twitcher too. My new office overlooks a cityscape and am delighted to have seen a Peregrine zoom past my window on three separate occasions since Christmas. Must be one of a pair that nest on one of the University buildings.

there are other things to do apart from "GOLF" well I never!

I think me and you have mirroring lives! 27, golf, friends starting to drift, not drinking (medical reasons though). I must say I concentrate on my golf, practice, club maintenance, general fitness and a I play sunday league football now.
Me and the wife we go out for meals, we both enjoy poker so we play the tournaments in the local casino, just general potter about.

Just go do something nuts if you need a kick! You and the wife get up and get in the car and drive randomly somewhere! We do that often but then argue about where we're going haha

I can empathise with him it's not easy.
He could do with some anger management good to see its not just me though.
If it ever gets that bad I will call it a day.
thanks for the laugh.

Ive never tried to play an instrument, but if I could go back 30 odd years, wished I would have tried. Good luck.

I'm still playing cricket but I think this will be my last 'proper' season opening the bowling in the prem. Will retire for a few years and play more golf until my son is old enough to play senior cricket at which point I will rise like lazarus to open the batting for the 3rds and stand at slip while telling the keeper how blooming brilliant I was and how the standard of cricket (and the teas) has slipped alarmingly over the past 30 years.

Family and sport take up most of my free time.

Lol I have played cricket with your future self! Alan, lovely bloke, but on Sunday cricket or 2nd team the most miserable grumpy Yorkshireman you could ever meet. Was still a class batsman at late 60's though. Would just moan for 50 overs at first slip, telling the skipper to take off the bowlers because they're crap (openly, loudly and aimed at 15yr old lads breaking into seniors!) if he got a low score batting would blame the pitch (which at home, he prepared!) then just go and umpire for the rest of the match. Great bloke if I'm honest! I miss cricket occasionally!!
