What course if any has blown you away ?

The Old Course just because it was the Old Course
Turnberry Ailsa as it was magnificent
Machrihanish Dunes as it showed what you can do with a new course in the classic links style

How can you have predicted EXACTLY what I was going to put?? I will have to add Cruden Bay now just to be a little different!

The West course at Wentworth for me. I had walked it loads of times for the BMW and the World Matchplay and jut had to play it. On the day I shot 87 off 14 and finished par bogie par on the course before the changes. I loved it so much that about 5 years on I can still remember how I played most of the holes.

Id go for Gleneagles Kings course. It's not just about the course though, it's the whole set up and setting.
Well said Qwerty - I forgot to mention Gleneagles - that joins the relatively small list of courses that have the "x factor" in a big way - I love the whole setting and hotel and the course was really good

Both courses at Saunton are just superb. The views from the clubhouse are great.

Also been hugely impressed by Walton Heath, Woburn, The Hotchkin at Woodhall Spa and The Grove (which I am playing later today!!!)

The Ailsa and The Hotchkin for me both well worth the journey.

Abroad I'll go for Quinta da Lago South quality from start to finish, Monte Mayor that's some golf course all that way up, and I'll give a mention to one hole that I didn't know about prior to arriving on the tee - the 16th at Vale do Lobo Royal!

Has to be royal portrush for me! Been lucky enough to play it a few times and playing it again next month. Many a summer spent at the caravan as a child spent in portrush playing most courses up there. Scenery is spectacular, always in great nick, even going into the clubhouse does it for me. And the valley is definitely underated!!

It would have to be Tain April 2006.

I'd only started thaying a few months before and only ever played parkland courses in England and the two Again parkland courses in Inversneck.

A mate was over visiting from the states whom played golf and he wanted crack at links golf.

Turned up, played, blown away how good it was and how beautiful with all the broom in flower.

Joined on the spot, though £250 was just too good to pass up, even if it was 40 miles from home.

St. Mellion Nicklaus course for me.

I've not played as many top courses as most, but St. Mellion was a real treat. I've only played it once so the memory may be a little clouded, but I remember it being in great condition, hardly seeing a soul on the way round, and no let up all the way round on having to think your shots through.

Finally managed to talk some mates into going for a 3 round / 2 night stay there next month and can't wait!

If you don't know what that is.... then you'll just have to head over and play Shiskine ;) Played it with the mother of a friend who must have been in her mid 80s at the time and she could still hit the shots required to put together a score. If Heaven has a golf course it'll be like Shiskine :D And Mem will be on the first tee every day.

Next on my list, hopefully this summer.Looks like golfing heaven

Less obvious one (and on a slightly less grand scale) is Gullane No 2 when I played it for the first time. Other than a shockingly poor 1st and 18th the holes over, up and down the dunes are great fun. Played there hundreds of times in all weathers and enjoy it each time.

My favourite 'normal' course.I simply love walking on that turf.

Monte Mayor in Spain. How they managed to build such a beautiful golf course up there is beyond me.

Disneyland golf but great fun.someone told me it had shut down?Shame if true.

Great to read that as I'm going up there next month to play the Ryder Cup PGA course and stay for 3 days

Try and change to the kings.Outwith the 3rd and brutally hard 4th, the kings is mega.

no-one mentioned the daddy of all golf courses yet...Royal Dornoch. On a warm calm day there is no better spot to play golf*

*I've yet to experience RCD

Was supposed to be playing Old Head and Ballybunion as our golf tour this year, but just unable to get the logistics sorted to get everyone there in the time frame and cost scale required. Will have to be rescheduled as both courses look stunning from their websites. Will console myself with playing Sunningdale Old & New instead.

As it stands right now, from courses I've played, I think the New Course at St Andrews, and Takarazuka Kougen in Japan.

Played the Ailsa at the start of this month. Beautiful Spring day, amazing setting, history everywhere you look, great welcome from staff & members alike - then the course itself....!

Hopelessly in love with the place, can't wait to go back, will tell anyone who will listen about it!

My mate has just played Old Head and said it was fantastic ,we're hoping to get over there this year and play it,he said the website doesn't do it justice.

None so far as I have not played many top courses, The best course I have played so far would have to be the Dukes course although silly the amount of bunkers they have and that was playing when the course was sodden.
