What course if any has blown you away ?

Woodhall Spa heathland as there isn't one bad hole on the course. Mount Juliet for parkland just loved the place and how manicured it was. Cant decide on a links as haven't played too many but Moray GC at Lossiemouth as I love the place.

Forgot to mention the obvious one! My West Lothian links - Craigielaw.

It was very new when I joined - I was a Founder member having admired it from afar several times when I'd played Kilspindie.

Excellent facilities - even when the clubhouse was a £70k Portakabin! - and a nice journey from Edinburgh (30mins from Dundas St 20 from Leith Links normally) past some historic courses. Maybe not a classi Links yet, but certainly a challenge. The houses that 'funded' the development fit in well, the wildlife (hares, skylarks, house-martins/swallows/swifts on the course and severl different types of geese (none Canadian) landing in squadrons on Aberlady Bay are fabulous. 5 other course can be seen from many of the fairways and the view at sunset of Arthur's Seat and Edinburgh is phenomenal. Fife (and a few more courses) is just across the Forth which has plenty of traffic if you like watching ships. Quite often, the golf is the least of the pleasures of being there!

few lucky guys on here! i've led a sheltered existence in comparison, best knock i've experienced is probably lough erne however the back 9 at slieve russell really impressed me. i love links golf might try and enter the great north links later, knock a few of the to-do list!

Good outing in ballyliffin in July .. see arrange a game section for Irish Craic classic , even pop over & play the Sunday ? enjoyed Lough Erne even tho i played rubbish on it .. Played Kirkistown many moons ago when i was staying up with my brothers in laws on the penninsula .. wind changed and it was like playing a different course

Carnoustie I have played it once and I thought it was a great course. I am a James Braid fan he did not build bad courses. My course(Irvine,Bogside) is a Braid Course not the longest in the World but if there is a bit of wind its long enough.

Just realised I never replied to this thread the first time round – probably because my attendance has been a bit sporadic!

Anyway, in England, my choice would be probably Bearwood Lakes, or The Hotchkin.

In the USA – TPC Snoqualmie Ridge (Where the Senior tour Boeing Classic is played. Stunning golf course)

Rest of the World – The White Witch, Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Foxholer...the 13 rules were the first rules of golf drawn up by HCEG, many years before before the carpet baggers from the R&A came along to grab all the glory.
PS Craigielaw is East not West Lothian. The only thing West Lothian is famous for is asking a question.

Sunningdale Old blew me away first time I played it on a beautiful spring morning. Rushed onto the first tee to get in front of a society and topped my drive. Started 7,5,2,2 finished with a 73 and lost on the last.

England: Sunningdale Old Course.
Scotland: St Andrews Old Course (not as much for the course itself, but for the history, those who've gone before me and being the first out at 7am, with almost no-one else around - wonderfully atmospheric).
Ireland: The K Club.
Celtic Manor didn't blow me away, and I've not played in Northern Ireland.
Europe: Old Course at Vilamora.
US: Old Corkscrew, Naples, Florida.
Asia: Blue Canyon, Phuket.

That part I know. I actually stayed beside Leith Links and had to have a couple of sneaky hits on it! It was only 10 years after that the St Andrews lot officially adopted the HCEG rules, for a similar reason - a competition. They'd probably been playing pretty much those rules in matches (which seems to be what these competitions were about) for some time previously though.

The 3 Golf Clubs with silver balls for each year's Champion were impressive too - as were the 'originals' of several of paintings I'd seen in books and articles.

Oh dear. That's the second time I've made that blunder! I blame the discussion about West Linton this time (and thoughts about North Berwick too)! Apologies to both Lothian areas! :D

Having played a few of the other Heathland courses already, Sunningdale Old was/is just really lovely to me rather than mind-blowing - 5th and 10th Tee views excepted!

Lucky to have played a few open rota courses and of these turn berry ailsa is the greatest with history and a course to die for however.....
My favourite course is still a little Cumbrian links that gives me a feeling of happiness and contentment in spade loads as well as being a fabulously raw links course. It may not even register on a lot of folks radars but for me the feeling associated with the place gives it the edge.

And the rough has shot up in the last couple of weeks!! Brutal can only describe how its playing at the moment, beating me up big time.

Been lucky to play some nice courses at such an early point in my game but the stand out courses to date are Silloth on Solway followed by Formby and then Saunton East. I like the back 9 on the F.O.A but the biggest let down for me was Hoylake, it just did nothing for me!

Playing Beau Desert next month so no doubt that will then feature.

I must say I was really impressed with Preston GC and as a parkland course it definitely deserves a mention as links courses tend to dominate these topics.
