Im a big fan of team events through the winter but what competitons would you like to see at your course to change it up a bit?

My idea would be for an iduvidual comp but on every green there is 2 holes cut in the green. One at the back, one at the front or one left one right. The key being there is no flags in the holes! Simply play up to the green and putt to the nearest! I think it would be a good laugh and it mixes it up a bit

We were going to have a Powerplay competition last summer but it never materialized, that would be a good crack.

I'd just like to see more variety of competitions, seems as though we only ever have stableford or medals then once a year a Bogey comp, and then maybe 2 or 3 Texas scrambles. Maybe 2 or 3 Bogey comps or maybe mini matchplay comps where you only play 9 holes then go through to the next round on the same day if you win. All done and dusted in one day, that would be a good laugh.

I've often wanted a putting competition at some point during the summer.

Nothing too serious but it would be fun to give it a go on the odd occasion and see how many people would enter.

Some really really tricky putts could be set up for the competition and it wouldn't be difficult or cause harm to the greens.

Might put it in the suggestion box.

:)

Ash!!

Hoping to persuade our club to have a Powerplay event one evening this summer. I'd like to see some kind of team bogey event. I love this format and we only have one bogey comp in the calendar which is a singles event

You might not like the team bogey I devised several years ago – I’m sure someone will tell me it’s not new. Teams of 4 (or 3), each player having a bogey card marked as normal. Team captain marks an additional card for the team. On each hole the individual results against bogey are aggregated as you would if you were totting up your 18-hole scorecard e.g. 2 pluses and 2 minuses would give a half for the team for that hole, 3 halves and a minus would give a minus for that hole, a plus with 2 halves and a minus would give a half and so on.
The sadistic beauty is that you could play the round of your life and be the maximum plus 18 but your team-mates could drag the team down to the minimum minus 18.

Four person alternate shot :D

One has to be cat 1, one cat 2, one cat 3 and one cat 4

Either no need for handicaps, team gross score counts or someone who is good at maths would be required on the 1st tee!

Id like to see a 7-Iron tournament. Everyone in the field only has a 7-iron to use. Just like Roy McAvoy (Kevin Costner) in the film Tin-Cup. Would make for great viewing seeing people get out of bunkers and have to put with it.
You would have to get used to different trajectories and stances. Would improve your game and contact in the ball.

I agree with you here Swanny, we could do with a few more things to change it up. I like the idea of the matchplay though. We don't do enough of it at our place.

Didn't realise they were planning on doing a Powerplay comp. May have to have a chat with Craig and try and get him to sort it out with Luxford!!

Have to say our club is great with at least 1 if not 2 team comps ranging from 4ball 3/4 person teams 4somes scrambles every month but we do have at least 12 comps a month from now to October.

I would like to see a Ryder Cup style event, commitee and club staff v's the ordinary members which is something we did at another course I used to play at, using the staff v's top 10 in OOM.

I personaly think scrambles bring out more people & create a great buzz in the place , our captains drive was great fun , shotgun start, draw for teams scramble , great fun in clubhouse afterwards & played with people id never played with before.. have it in the summer & barbie after it ..

I like that idea of the yellowball comp , 3 person team each has to hit the yellow on alternate holes , yellow ball to score double stableford points , if you loose it tough, single scores all the way round then ..

i would love a leader board on captians day. being able to look up after each hole and see your name either rise up or sink like a stone would be great craic. loads of people and walkies talkies needed. if i win the lotto ...
