What are your swing thoughts?

Before my shot:

Driver? : Alignment, grip, face open(to alow for to shaft angle being opan) Bend knees.
Irons? : get on plane, turn your wrists, TEMPO!
Chipping? : Club face pointing at target, swing through.
Bunker play? : Take the sand
Putting? : dont over swing, dont decelerate (I dont do it in the negative though)

I dont have too many swing thoughts but:

Driver? : SMASH IT!
Irons? : Dont smash it
Chipping? : Dont decelerate
Bunker play? : Take the sand
Putting? : keep the face square, dont overswing,"go ball" or "settle" or "GET IN" :D

One of the best comments I have picked up from this forum was from JustOne and the comment could mean nothing or everything, "trust your swing". If you have set up for the shot how you would like to play it and you know you have capability to play it then trust your swing, it works.

Once I've setup I don't have any specific thoughts other than "hit it". I've made all the decisions and adjustments during my setup before I've swung (alignment, shape of shot, where i want to start the ball etc) so all I do is trigger the backswing and trust the mechanics of physics to keep the ball in play.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it's a mindless lash at the ball that tops it about 60yds :)

My body and mind seem to be singing from different hymn-sheets as I get older

My brain is seeing shots that my body just laughs at!! :D

Been trying hard NOT to have any swing thoughts so I don't think anymore. Just line up, waggle and fire. Usually follow by reload, waggle and fire.

:D

Perhaps break the mould by keeping your glove on for the entire round!

I'm with you James. Once I have set up all I'm thinking about is my target and not trying to lash the cover off the ball.

"that buxom lady jogging down the side of the 3rd is distracting"

"dont shank, dont shank, dont shannnnnkkkkkk"

"I wonder what the wife is doing at home while I am out"

Driver...don't hoik it 30 yards left...damn
irons...don't shank it...damn
chipping...don't duff it...damn
bunkers...don't thin it and kill your playing partner...damn
putting...well that'll be another three putt then...damn it's four.

NB these can all occur on the one hole.

Currently trying to think about clearing my left hip but today I hit a really perfect 5 wood and realised afterwards I wasn't actually thinking anything when I hit it. I just swung the club. If only I could do that all the time.

Tempo
Tempo
Tempo

I thought today after swinging easy for a hole, I need a board at the back of every green with "TEMPO" written on it in big letters

On driver and long irons:
I concentrate on tempo, taking the club back slowly and then completung the swing with my hands finishing high, next to my left ear. I have a tendency to start swinging around my left shoulder which produces a hook.

All other shots:
Just picture the ball flight I want, "feel" the shot, and swing.

I try not to have any but they always sneak in. For most it's probably "nice and smooth". I used to be guilty of trying to absolutely muller the ball, so learning to slow things down a bit has helped. Of course, I still have the occassional "don't go OOB" on certain holes, and we all know what that leads too!!

Try to keep some flex in my right knee.

$64,000 question......... why?

Because I tend to start swaying when my right knee locks straight, and I hit the ball better when I don't sway.

Maybe it's not the right thing to do but it works for me.

You have my address to send the $64,000 cheque to ;) ;)
