I've just been looking through my members handbook and highlighting all the comps I may be able to play and/or am interested in playing but I have a few questions for anyone in the know...

1) What is a Mens Medal Q?
2) What is a Mens Stableford Q?

There is quite literally stacks of the above, especially the Stableford ones from October through to March, and I want to know what they are and why....

Anyone shed any light?

I guessing the Q stands for qualifying but for what I've no idea. We have a couple of medals each year and the top 16/32 qualify for knockouts.

Alternatively it could be a qualifying event as we have some competitions that are only open if you have put 5 qualifying cards in over the past 12 months.

Hi,

I think Homer is right, we have to enter 3 qualifying comps to be able to enter the club champs at my course.

Cheers

We have a number of "major" & "premier" comps on, and it does say in my handbook that you have to have played in at least 3 qualifiers over the last 12 months to be eligible for them.

So all these stableford qualifiers arent for any specific comp then you reckon?

I cant see any Medal finals listed either

I think you'll find that Medal "Q" and Stableford "Q" just means that they qualify for handicap purposes.
So if you're playing in a comp without, your handicap will not change either way.

I can only say about my club mate, they are comps but no name on board or big cup. It is just there way of making sure that when it comes to the main champs , everyone who is entered would hopefully be playing off a fair h/c , does not always work though.

Good luck with them mate. I have my first comp on Sat and it is the clubs big one, so should be fun.

So would these Stableford Q & Medal Q be competitions in their own right then?

Yes, they are competitions in their own right.

Generally all clubs have a Medal competition and a Stableford competition every month. Some have mid week versions as well.

Then you tend to have the more prestige competitions where you may win a trophy or get your name on the board. These can be either Medal ( strokeplay ) or stableford formats. These will be the competitions named like..

- Presidents Cup
- Players Bowl

etc etc

At our club, all winners from any competition during the year are invited to play in a competition for such winners only. I am pleased to say this year I will be invited to play

Cheers....i've just missed out on Captains Day, I dont get my h/c cert til tomorrow but i'm raring to go!!

Still, there are a few of our majors left this year so I can hopefully get into 1 or 2 of these.

I seriously cannot wait to play some competition golf :D :D :D

Once you've played in a few competitions, the friendly/social rounds, although still enjoyable, just won't seem the same.
Think of it KeefG, on a freezing cold winters morning, with your wooly hat on, looking like a dork, your'e faced with the first tee shot in the monthly medal - and EVERY shot counts! :) :D

Honestly fella, you wouldnt believe how much i'm looking forward to it!!

Me too!

Just got membership in my club and am seriously looking forward to competions. Have checked the diary and the first Medal I can play in - due to prior committments - is not until October. October, I ask you... (Thinks..... "any merit in asking the wife if we can cancel the summer holiday...")
