Yes....it's a standing joke around my club that when I take my practice swing with the driver on the mat, sparks fly!
I've always grazed the turf/mat on the practice swing, but not on the real thing.....the sparks look cool, unfortunately my short distance soon puts paid to setting the course alight!!
