Got to Cruden Bay this morning, to find it blazed in glorious sunshine… What a day, and setting for my fist uni match. It was Aberdeen 2s vs. Dundee 2s.

Then I was told, oh by the way, you're off first in 15 minutes… :o No pressure then!

Anyway, 3 iron down the middle and I was away. After 2 holes, 2 up… :D

Then the real Cruden Bay showed it's teeth, but in a good way!

I absolutely loved it! None of us in the 4 ball (we were playing two singles matches in a four ball) had played it before, so it was a great laugh working out lines etc. Some of them were way out, but that made it all the more interesting.

Anyway, the setting is second to none, the conditioning, considering the time of year was fantastic, and overall, this has to go in my top 10 golf courses that I have played! :)

Interestingly, we played a new par 3 that replace the par 3 11th. It was a cracking view, from an elevated tee to a green side on you probably only 12 yards deep. The only downside was that there were no yardage markers at all, so as I had the honour I had no idea what I had. But a real classic hole!

As for the match well, I never went behind, but there were some nervy moments… Highlights were:

Driving the short par 4 8th with a 2 iron
The view on the 10th tee
Driving the Par 4 12th green
Hitting a blind flop shot to 1ft on 13 from 30 yards to save par
Holing a 20 footer to make it dormie going down the last :p

In the end winning 2 UP having shot a 78! :D Oh, and Aberdeen ended up 5-3 winners too!

I got a picture of the view on the 10th tee… Unfortunately it really does not do the course nor the weather justice, but still thought it worth sharing.

wd Stef :)

Are you the guy who was trying to go to St Andrews and then went to Aberdeen but under a diff name?

yeah… :) i ended up not getting the grades for St Andrews… but things happen for a reason, and to be honest I think in this case for the best too! Aberdeen is a year shorter course, with a better life night, and a much much better medical school, with a lot more hands on experience! I am on the wards now already, whereas I would really get to meet patients properly till 4th year at St Andrews. Plus the golf course at Aberdeen isn't exactly what I'd call shabby ;), and it is much quieter so it isn't as if I have missed much that way in terms of golf.

I changed my username about a month ago, because I realised how rubbish it was, although the new one isn't exactly genius! :p

You should drop by if you are heading that way again soon, as until the end of March the green fees are £35 a round, possibly all day… :o

Worth a good £50 of anybody's money during winter, double that in summer IMO!

Just don't play a member for money round there as it is so quirky that members knowledge would be priceless!
