• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

What’s your preferred type of 4-ball game format?

It's like that at Muirfield after lunch, only two balls in play per group. If the group is 4, it's alternate shot. If the group is 3, it's alternate shot for 2 players and a single playing his ball.
You adhere or you don't play. :)
Also add places like Rye , Aldeburgh, and many links courses on most days

Isn’t that against the rules of handicapping ?
What if these players want to play a GP card.

Seems very harsh, take your money but don’t play Proper golf.
I’d give them a miss.

I don't think these are courses that care what other people think. Their club, their rules. They have the money to be able to do this.

I wouldn’t think they would be too bothered

And why isn’t it “proper golf” ?

If you want to put a card in then play as a two ball

Not sure what handicapping rule it contravenes ,doesn't even stop GP cards as you can play in the morning or with one other person.

Personally I quite enjoy foursomes particularly if playing 36 holes in a day having a foursome as the second round makes it less tiring. I wouldn't want to play a foursome if it was full fee though I agree and I'd rather not play if it if was for a single round on a course I didn't know.

Thought they want every round to count for handicap.
I know ,,it was a bit tounge in cheek.

Foursome golf is just watching your mates hit bad shots for half the holes.😉

I enjoy foursomes and greensomes as much as anyone - at my home club. I would just never pay a full green fee and then do it, that would just be daft. Like paying for 18 holes when you only intend to play 9.

When we play 36 hole foursomes matches the clubs just charge us 1 18 hole green fee each.
