On the masters and the players yes he is a choker how cant he be???

Because choking is missing a 2ft putt to win a Major (Hoch, Sanders).

Because choking is sticking your ball in the water on the last hole (Floyd, Van de Velde).

Because choking is not dropping out of the world rankings and then returning higher than you ever were before.

Because choking is not shooting 71 or 74 in the final round...it's shooting 78 when others are shooting 66.

And because choking is hoiking your opening drive 70 yds left into a lake on the 1st morning of the Ryder Cup (ahem...)

Choking is shooting the lights out on day one and two of the tournament and failing to capitalise on it.

Choking is failing to get to grips with the pace of the greens on days 3 & 4!

Choking is the failing of the strongest part of your game when under pressure.

Choking is the repeated failure to get the job done despite being in the position to do so.

Think you are trying to convince yourself....

*sigh* just responding to your unsubstantiated point with some cogent reasoning actually...

...but you join thecraw and the other Celtic Sassenach-haters and, like Stewart Lee's taxi driver, don't let the facts get in the way of your argument.

Read the latest 'Global Golf' issue for an even-handed look at the final day and Westwood in particular. Westwood didn't play well on Saturday or Sunday and was still in contention on the 70th tee. That is not choking, that is grinding out performances when off-colour.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Yes I hate Westwood because he's English! :D I started the thread because Westwood is choking (in my eyes, and my opinion) when the pressure is on. The facts are there to back this arguement up.

I only started this thread because I cant stand poor English Westwood, just wait till I start on the World Cup!

Grow up, get a pair of balls and dry your eyes. Not one person has mentioned race or religion till you! Wonder why?

Just to keep you happy and allow that chip to grow into a full spud. I would maybe consider editing your statement.

random dribblings

You and I obviously have different definitions of facts.

And I hardly think someone who uses a picture of an Australian-American looking like a Smurf is in any position to talk about 'growing up'.

Quite why you think my eyes need drying is beyond me. The thread was attesting that Westwood is a 'choker' based on not-even-worthy-of-flimsy 'evidence'.

I put forward an argument that he isn't. He's a nice guy who has put a lot back into golf so of course I would like to see him win a big 'un. He also plays brilliant golf and always comes across as an immensely likeable bloke, so again, that puts him in my camp of 'players I'd like to see win'.

Given that most of the respondents on this thread claiming him to be a choker are of celtic persuasion, it was legitimate to address this.

However, I'm getting a bit bored of all this so I will add no more. :(

.... Monty was No 1,

Eh, nope.

His best was world number 2 and that was before Tiger came on the scene.

Monty dominated his own back yard and was prolific in the Ryder Cup ... does that sound famliar.

I stand corrected. Monty was only the second best player in the world. Westwood still couldn't lace his Footjoys. :D

Your not doing very well at all in this thread Pro v Wan!. Its Ecco's that Monty wears!!!!

Hahaha!

He's the best 3 round player in the world just now,he wont win a major or the players because when it comes to chipping and putting in the last round his arse faints ,simples.

Code for 'Actually the more I think about it the more I realise his arse does fall out and he is nothing more than a choker'. ;)

I think the biggest pointeveryone is missing is just how low Clark shot in the last round to win. Best round of the day by a good margin and one of only a few players to break par and 70. If someone comes along and shoots low, given the conditions, pin placements and pressure to win then I wouldn't be overly disappointed. However if I had a 73 or 74 and the guy that wins only has to shoot level to beat me then that would hurt

On current form he's a choker. He's been in contention too many times and fluffed it. That to me is a choker.

However..

I like him, I think he's a good guy, he's always smiling and I hope he comes good soon. I'd love to see him win the Open and I think he's got a good chance this year.

As has been said, his main strength went missing on Sunday and that's a concern. In times of stress he should be able to rely on his main weapon. If this is missing then it puts too much pressure on the weaker side of his game i.e his short game which, on Sunday, came good.

I read an article many years ago about LW. Apparently, when he was about to go on tour for the first time, his Dad took him to a local mine or quarry (I can't remember which one). They watched the workers going about their business. Lee asked his Dad why he was watching these people mining/digging and his Dad responded stating that LW was incredibly lucky to be doing a job that he loved and that he'd probably get paid handsomely for it and that the miners/quarrymen would give their right arms to be in his position. Maybe he's kept that in mind which is why he's one of golf's nice guys.

Come on LW - grow a pair of knobblers and win a major!! The whole of England (AND SCOTLAND) expects..
