West Sussex golf club

Jonny Gutteridge is your man I think. Am sure he is a member there

Sadly not!

I did enquire about membership once upon a time, I think you needed 7 referrals from existing members, then multiple interviews, then you join a waiting list from which they select members.

I did however participate in the ‘West Sussex Foursomes’ over winter, which was an absolute delight. It’s a seriously lovely place, the course is immense, the facilities are brilliant, it’s got a lovely “posh golf club” vibe about it, whilst remaining warm and friendly and welcoming.

I have played the same event a couple of times. Have always wanted to play a whole round with my own ball there. Had the chance a couple of years ago as Sussex seniors champs was played there. Unfortunately the treatment table reared its ugly face, so I missed out.

Of course it’s a lovely place - of course it is..

Everything I had read about it appealed to me (more so even, than a number of equally famous heathland courses) - but something about the course made it definitely NOT my favourite heathland course…

Only played it the once (so I’ll have to play it lots more, obvs to get a more thorough view 🤣) but I did a 36 hole day with Liphook in the evening - and I came away preferring Liphook by a long way.
There were a few holes maybe 8,9,10 that were fairly bland.

Maybe it is something as simple (and unfair when comparing courses) as the weather 🤷🏻‍♂️ As it humid, hazy when I played my mid morning round VS a beautifully quiet, sunny twilight round at Liphook

Played there foursomes one year and they let the rough grow, was brutal but a great day out.

Liphook is just a delight, if I ever get back to England would love play either again.

One of my absolute favourite places to play golf. Great video.

Unsurprised about the membership notes above. It always struck me as a “we do it our way” sort of place which would normally put me off but the charm of the place somehow always wins. Absolutely love it.

What about the colour and length of socks?

Nice and simple dress code

On the course we ask that smart and recognised golf attire is worn. Tailored shorts are requested. Members and visitors wearing shorts may choose to wear either short sports socks or long knee length socks. Hats should be worn in the conventional way with any peak forward. Golf shoes should always be worn for safety, preferably without metal spikes.
