i would like your opinion on my two local Golf course's call them A & B

The price is the same A & B 420 pounds for the year
The greens are the same standard
The fairway are the same standard

A --club house is about a big as 2 static caravans with a bar ,hot food at weekend ,,there is a great club atmosphere with competitions in the week & weekends

there is NO level Tee boxers on the back 9 holes
there is lots of dog walkers veering from the public footpath onto the golf course
the golf pro is OK
the greens man is out every morning using a big wipe type tool ,,sliding it across the Green to clean them
they do have a club teams

B --club house is brick built with a cafe, pro shop & driving range ,,,it under new management & Ive not seen any competitions yet ,,they don't have a team

the Tee boxers are brilliant on all 18 holes
the cafe, driving range, golf shop, are very good standard
the golf pro looks a bit young for my liking hes about 22years old
practice Putting green is good

so really if club B had Club A's competitive atmosphere it would be perfect

i am a member at club A ,,,,I'm thinking of joining club B then paying for the competitions at club A

please have a think about the differences then decide what you would do ???

Depends what you're really looking for.

I chose the Course over the Club.
We do have comps, not as many as I would like, but there's not much atmosphere.
There are other clubs that have much more of a Club feel to them but the course isn't (in my opinion) as good.
If my needs change - or they build a railway through the course, whichever comes first - then I'll choose Club over Course.

At the moment my choice would be the better quality course.

Club A - Golf is meant to be fun and something you enjoy! You'll do that much more at a club with some atmosphere, good sociable people around you to play with, good comps and a team possibility as well.

Use club B for practice.

EDIT: A few low stinger drives will soon sort the dog walkers out - don't forget to shout fore though! :D

I'm afraid I wouldn't go for either. I would look around for a club I'm totally happy with. There are plenty of clubs out there. It's a buyers market

I would go for the better course.

Nice facilities and a decent meal are great if you are "on tour" and most people I know live fairly close to their clubs.

I just joined club A after playing both clubs! I enjoyed the course at A far more, not as hilly, and was warned by 2 members at club B that in summer the amount of buggies zooming round you out on the course was not good. Obviously course B has more facilities. Course A seemed friendlier and had a better atmosphere as far as i was concerned and this was one of the things that swayed me towards club A. Hope this helps

I am club over course. I play golf for fun and I can play badly on a well maintained course and good on a poorly maintained on.

What would tip me over that is if the course was not tended at all. As long as its paid suitable attention to keep it playable for the majority then thats fine.

In a similar sort of position and i have opted for the Club A position. Neither of the courses was significantly better than the other but, depsite my best efforts, I just could not get involved in my club and the atmosphere is the club house was non existant. I was becoming a car park golfer and I had no desire to be one. Club house just had the odd group of people who had no desire to involve others. The team golfers stuck together, the long term members stuck together and everyone else was left on the preriphery and the club did nothing to change this. I effectively had a season ticket for a course. I tried getting involved in the social team and a few other bits and pieces but outside of that everyone just went back to their own groups.

I want a golf club that is exactly that, a club. I want to be part of something that is more than just a course that I can play. For that reason I have gone for a change. Not sure whether it will be any different but I needed to try something.

Are you considering being a member of both or leaving club A to join club B?

If leaving club A, you won't be able to play in their comps if you're not a member.

I'd be looking for something that ticked all the boxes and wasn't a composite of A and B even if that meant a slightly higher price. If you have to choose between the two then course every time although it leaves you an issue about getting qualifying cards and an active handicap if they don't run comps. As for the age of a pro I think its irrelevant as long as he offers a decent service. Even Bob was young once although Mafeking had just been relieved
