Went to my best mate's Engagement party on Saturday night.

Shortly before he left, he pulled me to one side and formally asked me to be his Best Man. Haven't stopped grinning since! Never been a Best Man before, and probably never will be again, really honoured that he asked me.

Known the guy for 24 years and we've been through it all, but I was convinced he would ask his brother, as they are pretty close as well.

Just wanted to share, as I'm not officially allowed to say anything yet until he tells the others that were veying for the same spot.

Got a year to write the speech now - I'll probably end up doing it the night before.

Forget the speech, it is now your responsibility to ensure he has an awesome stag do.

When it does come to the speech don't plan every word. Have a couple of key points you want to touch on and talk around them, anywhere between 5 and 10 minutes.

Obviously that is first priority! I have a few ideas in mind already, I have a feeling he'll want to go to Ibiza, however...Which is where he got engaged, so he really shouldn't be going back there, could bring back bad memories! :D

With regards to the speech, I doubt I'll plan every word, but I do have a tendancy to go on a bit...Hopefully I can keep it fairly concise!

Make sure you know who are going to be bridesmaids before you accept !!! It's a requirement of the role that the ensure that the bridesmaids have a wonderful day, night and morning after !!!

And after you've foudn out, ensure that there is at least one who is over 18 and single !

(forgot that rather important factor on previous post !)

In your speech just liken the bride to a set of Mizuno MP68 irons, that way words like lush, smooth, sexy, pure, best, quality and gorgeous will pop into your head. The groom meantime could be likened to a set of Ping Zing 2's.....nuff said!!

I have been best man 5 times!!!

The boring part is the reading of the cards but I always mix in a couple of spoof cards and got plenty of laughs and written as follows:~

(a)...Always sorry to lose a punter.....Love miss whiplash !!

(b)....You make me feel so good when we are together and can never bear it when we are apart...all my love forever.....Jenny ( not the brides name but just make sure it is not an ex-girlfriends name you read out !!!!!)

Also if any of the speeches are going on and on toooooo long I would shout out " If I knew your speech was going to be this long I would have bought the suit "

Cheers
