my only specialist wedge is my cg11 60* and I absolutely love it. I practice with it quite a bit on the short game practice area at my club and hit some beautiful shots with it that stop almost immediately on impact. As others have said as long as I commit to the shot I am good, a nice agressive strike allows me to fly the ball all the way to the whole usually and get it to stop very quickly. I find it much more effective than when I was trying to judge bumb and runs, althoguh I sometimes use my hybrid to good efect for the simple chips at the moment.
The P/W and S/w that came with the set (Yonex C280). Have a Cleveland CC10 gap wedge that will get used possibly once or so a round. Rarely use the S/W for any shot other than sand so, realistically I basically use 1 wedge for chipping and pitching. Having said that, I do use my 9 iron a lot from off the green.
I have said before that, imo, unless you are a lower h/capper, the "lob" wedge is a very expensive club in terms of wasted shots. That high floater that lands softly with a touch of stop on it looks great when it works as intended - 1 perhaps 2 times out of 10? Leave it in the garage and be more versatile with the other clubs in your bag. You never know, you could reduce your scores.
Starting to agree with you Leftie. I still have mine in the bag because I cannot think of anything else to carry but my lob wedge is now used one every 2-3 rounds.
I have a Callaway 60 degree and a 52 degree. Until a week ago I'd never use one for a full shot and never carry both. I had the 52 tweaked (hopefully) to hit exactly 100 yards (to fill a HUGE gap between PW and SW). Didn't work and let me down by coming up short on 3 holes last Thursday.....they can't de-loft it and the lie is not great either. So I'm on the lookout for a "full hitting" wedge for 100-105 yards.
