Hi all.
Since I took up the game, I have been playing with my wedges that came with my iron set, (Ping G15)
I am now finding that they are a bit chunky, I hit the green most of the time from about 125 yards in, but from about 80 yards in I use my sandwedge (55 degree) hitting the green is no problem, but I would like more accuracy. (i.e nearer the pin)
I wonder if I should get a more bladed wedge for this ( maybe a 56 degree Cleveland or Vokey wedge? for more control & accuracy.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to a particular make of wedge & what I should be looking for regarding the degree of bounce.
All answers are appreciated.

I doubt a bladed wedge will provide you with more accuracy, closer to the pin. You should be able to achieve it by hitting your current wedge the right distance, or in the right direction .... sounds simple enough, but a bladed wedge won't necessarily give you either one of those.

Having a different wedge for every possible yardage would obviously give you a better chance of hitting the required yardage, but the ability to hit one wedge a number of different yardages is part of the game, and practice will more than likely achieve that.

Of course if you just want some new shinier clubs then go for it :)

I'd say a proper wedge rather than one that comes as part of a set would give you more feel around the greens but maybe not more accuracy.

Maybe have a lesson on your short game to see if that fixes it.

I had a set of g20 irons and found them a bit chunky as the sole width huge and 12 bounce. I changed to a vokey 46 which replace pw, a vokey 50 8 as a gap wedge bounce and a vokey 54 08 sand iron. Best change i have ever made. I just love hitting them love them

I suppose it depends if by nearer whether you mean distance or right to left?

A g15 wedge I think will be more forgiving, and should be easier to hit straight. But if you want to vary distance and type of shot a more bladed wedge will help you. I find GI iron wedges a bit hotter and harder to control distance.

Cleveland wedges are always decent and good value, I'm trying vokey's at the moment and they're decent as well.

If you have G15's you might like the ping wedges? And you could match the shaft in the wedge to your irons?

I bought the Tom Watson set of three wedges ( about £100) because they have a low bounce and the sand wedge is great for the shots where you are close in and want the ball to stop with little roll. But like everything in golf practice, practice , practice!

Inaccuracy from 80 yards out is operator error, not the club. I can understand maybe wanting something a little less chunky for delicate shots around the green. Get down to the practice ground
