My new set of irons has the PW at 46*, unlike my previous set at 48*. My 2 Vokeys are 52* and 56*. Ideally, I'd rather go 49*, 52*, 56*. Vokey don't do a 49*.

Do I go 50* then 54* and 58*, or is there a 49* manufacturer out there?

Thinking about it, as I type, maybe I just get a 50*, and get it knocked up. But then what other club do I drop to add in another wedge? I'm currently carrying 3w, 2H and 4H, then 4 iron... maybe I need to drop the 4 iron...

Help!

Vokey also do a 48, that could be knocked down,

Just remember you adjust the bounce as well as the loft..
One degree isn't going to make much difference though.
A 50 bent to 51 keeps gaps similar.
Guess it depends if you're a 3 wedger or a 4 wedger...

I think my mate has a 49 Cleveland wedge its old though .
most lofts are mainly even numbers now.
am sure 50 put down to 49 would you really know the difference sure I wouldn't.

Its an option Paul, although I'd rather knock a 50*. There's always creep back, especially with cast steel clubs.

Equally, as I'm getting a bit older, and more inconsistent, I think I might be over complicating things.

I get what you're saying but going from 46* PW to the current 54* is putting in a gap of between 20 & 26yds. Going from 46* to 50* is 15 to 18*.

I'd rather not have that big a gap on clubs that are very much green hitting clubs. 1* at my current distances is about 4yds... 4 paces.

I'm probably being too fussy, and unrealistic, these days...

I find it really hard to understand why people feel the need for 4 wedges. I rarely hit a full shot with mine & 46°, 50° & 58° is all I've ever felt I needed. The 58° acts as a sand & lob wedge but I more often use one of the other two. Really don't know what I'd do with another.

I'd rather avoid it too Bill. I like a 4 iron for those 230yd punch shots...:whistle:

PW is 46 so why not go 52 and 58 and an even split although your initial option of 50, 54 and 58 would work and anything else seems to be over doing it a bit especially noticing the difference 1 degree will give

Although I would personally go 50/4/8, if your not wanting to add a wedge and therefore drop a club elsewhere I would either stay with what you have wedge wise or go 50/54 or 50/56. really depends on what you use each wedge for, and your skill level of hitting different types of shots and distances with the same wedge

Perfect.
46=low
52=medium
58=high

Why on earth would you need any more

Because of the bounce variables,

My wedge came as a 47 so I carry a 52/7, 56/12 and in the summer 60/5.

People say open up the 52 but that increases the bounce and on a tight lie I wouldn't have the confidence doing that.

There is no right or wrong Bob, we all know your views, but confidence is huge in this game and if that means carrying 4 wedges then so be it.

If you have a 56 degree, why would you need to open a 52?

It was meant in context of carry the 60/5 (extra club), My 56/12 is my S/W, I couldn't open that up increasing that bounce on a tight lie if I needed to get over something short & high.

I'm comfortable carrying what I do. I don't hit enough GIR so my wedge combinations are important me. I think my up & down ratio is the strongest part of my game.

Yes - I happen to be selling a nice Callaway Razr X graphite shafted A wedge which is 49 degrees loft. Interested?:whistle:

Callaway's Razr x pw is 44 deg and their Razr x forged pw is 48 degrees! Seems like players clubs keep traditional lofts whereas game improver clubs have moved each club 1 spot for lofts, never quite understood this, its a bit like Nigel Tufnell's amps going up to 11!:confused:

I actually wish I had less than 4 wedges but the PW with my AP1 is quite low at 44 degrees so it kind of contributes to me needing 3 extra- 48/52/58 as these give me tighter gaps.... I'll use the 48 and 52 on full shots but rarely the 58 (That's when I need to play out the sand or high quick stopping shots). on full shots I'll get carries of 117 (PW), 105 (48), 92 (52).... If I had time to practice I'd maybe change to 44 - 50 - 58 but I don't so having those 12-13 yard gaps is ideal.

I had a similar dilemma, never resolved a perfect solution - just go with gut feel.
The 50 & 54 have become irreplaceable for me.
Unlikely I'd want to deloft the 50!

I sometimes go with 4i and PW + 50 + 54, usually in the winter, the Vokey 50* is superb for controlled pitching.

Other times drop 4i, and run PW + 50 + 54 + 58 (usually summer).

I very rarely use the 58 in winter as the 54 stops so quickly in soft/wet.

Don't you ever have a tight pin over a bunker type shot Gregger? There are a few holes where if I miss at a certain side the 58 is a must (even with the soft conditions)
