WD40 for cleaning rubber grips

I have just cleaned my club grips with WD40 seams to have worked a treat ..does anyone know of a reason why I shouldn't use WD40 or is there a better cleaner to use?

Warm water,washing up liquid & a sponge.

The hexane and a few other hydrocarbons would have a field day on the rubber. Not a great mix IMO

Isn't WD40 a lubricant? Why would you want that on your grips. On the other hand it is a water replant so might be ok in the rain.

Warm water, old scrubbing brush and a bit of washing up liquid works a treat. Do mine twice a month

Hmmm, you have the choice of WD40 or warm water and washing up liquid, and you choose WD40? Why would you do that?

Cannot see any advantage in using WD40 whatsoever. May well make them shiny and I bet they'll never squeak as it works wonders for rusty hinges as my shed will testify!

Wd40 and rubber, not a good mix, as ScienceBoy states. Best off with hot water.

Well I just tried it on a hard old rubber grip and it works.


You need to wash off the remaining wd40 afterwards, but the grip is now very tacky.
