Waterproof suit purchase.

Anything in Goretex (or equivalent these days) will be fine.

Galvin Green is top of the range and overpriced imo. The will last for years though anf now that the collar is a better design, are truly the best. My GG suit is 10 years old and still 'does what is says on the tin'.

I've seen deals on Sunice, and have one of their wind-tops that I am very happy with. Cross make very good, and reasonable gear too. Proquip seems pretty good as well, though front pockets (GG pocket is at the back!) of my 6-7 year old one (from Woburn) do get interfere with swing somewhat.

Jacket is significantly more important than Pants imo. I would (and have) allocated the vast majority of my budget to the Jacket and get simpler/cheaper Pants - but that's just my preference.
 
I've got a Galvin Green paclite jacket and love it. Very light easy to swing in and keeps me bone dry as its made with GoreTex.
As said above look for anything that is GoreTex, as it's this material/membrane that keeps you dry.
I agree I think the jacket is more important than the trousers so get a Galvin Green jacket and make do with some cheaper trousers till funds allow.
That said look at American Golf they do a Sunice GoreTex suit for £200. I was really tempted by this and couldn't make my mind up between the Galvin or Sunice but went for Galvin as knew more about it. That said Sunice is a good make too.
 
If I had abudget of 100-150 pounds I would use it on something useful rather than an overpriced ste of waterproofs. Cheap and chherful are what I have used for the past three years.
 
I've got a cheap and cheerful jacket, which also looks awful, and Its as hot as hell. I'm hoping a proper golf jacket will be more suited to the game instead of a walking jacket that isnt.

As above, 1st year member also looking for waterproofs. Club Pro has offered GG coat and tousers cheaper than i can find anywhere else and told me they're guaranteed for 8 years.Was wondering, is the guarantee worth the extra outlay?

Galvin Green waterproofs actually come with a lifetime waterproof guarantee because they have the GoreTex membrane. The zips and other bits are guaranteed for 4 years I think, but the jacket and trousers have a lifetime waterproof guarantee as its GoreTex
 
If you are on a budget you ought to at least consider the ProQuip Aqua Storm. Should be able to get the suit for under £100.

Well made, well cut, lightweight and will keep you dry.
 
I've come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a truly waterproof set of waterproofs. I've got Galvin Greens and played in some horrendous weather this year and they haven't kept me dry. Fine for showers, light rain or the occasional heavy shower but ANY suit will let water in if you are playing in really bad weather. It always manages to seep in down the neck or through zips.

Got a Sunice typhoon jacket... it is brilliant and light. You can get a deal with American for £150. Worth every penny.
 
Have two impermalite jackets - they are excellent, been 100% waterproof and carry a 5 year warranty. I also have the Adidas climaproof storm jacket and trousers and these are superb. Very comfortable, don't make any noise and do the job extremely well.
 
I now cycle to work most days, and i have just bought a waterproof jacket and trousers from Trespass. While not a golf brand, i wore them home 2 nights ago in monsoon type conditions and got home dry as a bone. They fold up really really small and are light and i didn't get too hot. All in, £27. They will be going in my golf bag when i need them!

Same here, use mine for general use and for golf, no problems with water but the zip on the jacket has broken. Luckily, there is a full length velcro strip that covers the zip and this works well enough. Only a fraction of the price of a proper "golf" suit.
 
Similar to OP but first winter of golf for me, got £100 there was looking a Nike StormFit waterproofs but though id ask on here what i should be looking at for £100 or less ?
