After watching the matchplay this weekend I can't believe how much time the top guys spend in the rough/in the trees/up cart paths/in the car park. I thought it was just me whos hacking around on a 27 handicap spending more time in the foiliage than smack bang in thre middle of the fairways. Granted they very often get back in the game 1/2 shots before I do but it surprises me they aren't more consistent.

I agree- the problem is tv only show you the good shots so you think they are constantly chipping in or sinking 60 foot putts.

I'd like to see a lot more of the misses but dunno if that would make good tv for the casual viewer

You do, however, have to remember that this was matchplay where players will have a different mindset to the one they have in a normal PGA tour strokeplay event. Additionally, this course was far from being your average PGA course with a considerable number of "risk and reward" situations. Both of those factors inevitably led to a lot of risk taking with a high number of bad results.

Yes but these guys still get the ball around the course in par or less a lot of the time, and the courses they play are usually long and difficult! :)
