I posted this yesterday and appreciate the points made.
However no one advised whether it was loss of hole for both players or whether the guy who trod on the line only was penalised.

If you are still reading Fylde white hope your back improves

You need to check here

30-3 - Best-Ball and Four-Ball Match Play

http://www.randa.org/en/Rules-and-Amateu...mp;subRuleNum=3

Which explains which penalties apply to the side and which just to a particular player in 4 ball match play. Too long to cut and paste in it's entirety. Rule 1-2 isn't listed as one where the penalty applies to the side. However 30-3(f) says

"f. Effect of Other Penalties
If a player’s breach of a Rule assists his partner’s play or adversely affects an opponent’s play, the partner incurs the applicable penalty in addition to any penalty incurred by the player.

In all other cases where a player incurs a penalty for breach of a Rule, the penalty does not apply to his partner. Where the penalty is stated to be loss of hole, the effect is to disqualify the player for that hole."

As the allegeded breach of Rule 1-2 adversley affected an opponent's play then it looks like the penalty of loss of hole would apply to both the player and his partner.

Hope I've interpreted that correctly. Happy to be advised otherwise if I have it wrong.
