StuartD and myself played our 2nd round match yesterday after a bit of panic due to the weather and pleased to say we managed a 4 & 3 win for the forum gang.

Once again, Stuart was the man of the match. We pretty much swapped handicaps (6 & 13) I reckon. He'll be getting fed up carrying me (but I secretly think he enjoys the responsibility)

:p

We were due to play at home but our course was closed due to rain so hastily had to get a time arranged away from home at Stirling GC late afternoon. Our opponents were two lovely guys, very helpful and chatty and the game was played in good spirit (and light drizzle).

Nice course, Stirling, and happens to be my 100th Scottish course played now. Might be worth a forum outing there, we reckoned. Easy to get to for most, eh? Lovely views of the Castle and some very good holes.

Our game generally was close for the front 9 with never more than a hole in it but when we went 2 up at last on the 10th, I think, I knew we were likely to seal the deal, especially with Stuart hitting every fairway and most greens in reg. We were +1 gross between us by the end so not too bad.

Round 3 here we come. Drawn away at Musselburgh GC against a 2 & 11 handicapper. Wish us luck.

:D

Well played gents. You'll be needing a good rest before playing at Musselburgh, it's a long track down there.

I am of course assuming that it's Monktonhall ;)

Possible pairing for Goswick .... again ;)

Indeed it is Monktonhall, Dave. A grand course which I like....and I'll be getting a few shots at last!

Goswick? Gie Stuart a break! By then he'll have carried me for 3 rounds already (not counting the last 2 years)

:D

Thanks for the good wishes.

I was down with our Juniors last month for a league match. The course was in very good shape indeed. Greens putted really well that day.

Hope all goes well.

It was certainly a long day yesterday. JF’s car was off the road so I had arranged to pick him up but when I got to his house we found his course was shut.

A few phone calls later and we had arranged to play at Stirling later in the day. After picking JF up (again) we headed through to Stirling in monsoon conditions. We started off in heavy rain but it soon eased up and we got round without problem.

On the holes that I did struggle on yesterday JF always chipped in with a par, so we were a very solid partnership all the way round despite JF saying he was still a passenger on the golf course as well as in the car. :D As JF said once we were 2 up and with longer holes to come, which suited us as longer hitters, we were very much in control.

My driving (with robobum’s old driver) and irons (GM/AG fitted) are especially strong just now and not taking the 2 six foot putts that were conceded due to the opponents being out the hole I was round in 78 (PAR 72, SSS 71).
I must admit I am feeling a little frustrated that I am not getting in much medal rounds as I would like due to family commitments (new baby) but the upside is my handicap is rather tasty for the Volvo comp just now. :D

I thought JF was taking the above photo for the stunning backdrop of Stirling castle but i reckon it was because if you look closely you will see only 1 ball on the green which I can confirm was JF’s ;)

I'm still in the singles, but need to play my next match my 5th Sept. The guy i'm against keeps suggesting times to play when there is a big comp on at Nairn and no chance of getting a tee time..

Where the feck are we playing????????

I thought Monktonhall was up by the braids but just realised thats Mortonhall.

Is Musselburgh where Tommo21 plays. I thought it was Royal Musselburgh to give it it's full title .

:D

As for Goswick pairing    ;)

Stuart,

there's Musselburgh GC (aka Monktonhall),
Royal Musselburgh (where Tommo plays)
and Musselburgh Links (the 9 holer inside Musselburgh Racecourse).

I take it you've not played it then? In which case I'm delighted. That'll be another 78 then.

:p

Never played any of them

I think i would have gone to the right course anyway. It is the one you can see at the end of the by-pass which I always thought was Royal Muss?

After much googling i think i now understand

Monktonhall GC (where we are playing) is in Musselburgh.

Royal Musselburgh GC is in Prestonpans.

I have stayed in and around Edinburgh nearly 18 years now and will NEVER understand you lot

Salt n' Sauce :D

Yes, Stuart, they are mental down that way. Miners. Say no more.

Correct. Musselburgh GC can be seen from the A1 just after the Old Craighall junction.

As Dave said it's a longish course but straightforward. 6725 yards off the whites but no surprises. It's all out in front of you. Open Qualifier Par 71, SSS 73. You'll like it. Trust me.

I've played Stirling once John and didn't really get it. It was a decent enough course but I felt that it just didn't "flow". Some lovely holes and good greens but in my opinion they just haven't utilised the course to its best potention.

If they re-arranged a few of the holes and played it in a different order then I'm sure they could get it much much better.

Well done on your victory. I'm playing tonight with JJF, I've not hit a ball in 16 days. Good preperation.

The greens WERE superb yesterday. Even with all that rain they were faster than anything I've putted on in a long time...and true.

Good luck tonight, Crawford. Only 16 days? That's pro standard in my eyes.
