Hi, Have just bought a new cordless phone (twin pack) old one was plugged into my sky router so assume it's over VOIP.
New one only gets speech one way, ie if I phone in from my mobile I can hear my wife but she can't hear me. Tried google but have no clue what they are on about (voice packets, ports etc) can anybody explain why it doesn't work to a person who doesn't have a degree in IT?
Thanks

I’m no expert, but from my BT days this was called one way transmission.
How are you wireless handsets connected to the internet. Is there a base that plugs into the router or is it by wi-fi?
It may be a setting that needs to be done on initial set up.

Not sure what system you have but my ISP gave me a base unit which comes from their box to the house and I plug my DECT phone base in to what looks like an ADSL that comes from base unit.

Thanks for the replies, got my daughter to ring us from her house on landline and all worked well, used my wife's mobile to do the same and that works- same provider as me- mine. I have Galaxy S24+ she has my old S20.
jim8flog I have the same set up as you Mine still doesn't work though. Frustrating !!

You may find some help on the SKY forums

Cracked it, it's my hearing aids!! I have the NHS one that are bluetoothed to my phone as soon as i switched them off everything works perfectly, means I have to enable speakerphone to on but that is of small consequence.
Thanks to those who tried to help.

Before you give up try rebooting your phone. I intermittently used to have the same problem with my Samsung and my hearing aids. In the end I changed to an iPhone.

You can think what you want about iPhones - and to each their own! - however, they just work and don't cause any problems! (y)

And the others aren't any cheaper anymore either...! 🤷🏽

They are, they really are. Not if you go top end but you can get a regular Samsung or Google phone for a significant amount less than an iphone.

I've had Samsung and Google phones, currently Google, and neither have caused me issues. Very simple, efficient, effective.

As I mentioned before : Chaqu‘un à son goût ! 🤷🏽

I trief to set up a Samsung once for my dad. It took me a whole weekend, and I still had a bad feeling about it - as if I had missed something really essential ! 😱

Never had that feeling with any iPhone. For me, they just seem to be more „logical“, self-explanatory ! 🤷🏽

But see the first line … ! :giggle: Not worth fighting about it ! 😄

I think we get used to a system and that then feels very logical. I had a look at Apple, disliked them very quickly. Android is simpler to me. Neither is right or wrong, it's how each of us see it.

I have just bought the iPhone 17, the day I went into Curry’s and paid for it my niece came over from Australia. The reason I say that electrical goods in Oz are significantly cheaper than the Uk. Plus when you take it out of the country, you get your tax back. If I had known I would have asked her to bring me a phone over. Anyway I mentioned this to my nieces mum and dad. I searched for a company in Oz called JB Hifi. The difference between a Samsung 25 and an iPhone was a lot. So much so, when nieces parents/ BiL and SIL go to Oz in December, they are both getting a Samsung 25.
In the UK The cheapest Samsung 25 at the moment is £599, iPhone 17 is £1099.
Oddly enough the prices for a Samsung vary, iPhones don’t 🤔 price fixing.

iPhone 17 is £799 from Apple. You can get them about £70 cheaper on ebay.

It's the Pro that's £1099.

Depends on what you want a phone for. I was in Currys yesterday Motorola £69 start price, I bought a Motorola last mid (better model) for £169 it does everything I want it to do.

It seems I unwittingly caused this thread to go off on a tangent.
When I said I changed my Samsung to an IPhone to solve an intermittent problem with one way transmission with my hearing aids.
It was not because I thought the iPhone was a more reliable phone, infact I preferred my Samsung. The reason I changed was because my hearing aids software was MFI (made for iPhone) and hence any software updates to the phone should be done with the hearing aid software taken into consideration when released.
I now have new hearing aids that are the same manufacturer, but the software is no longer MFI.
When I feel it is time to get a newer phone it will probably be another Samsung as I preferred the navigation around the phone and it was cheaper!
