I went to the range this afternoon for about 3 1/2 hours. Really pleased with myself...

Anyway...

Used my iPhone to record my swing on the video camera. Found that I was flexing my knees far to much which made me look quite strange... So with a little work I've stood taller and addressed the ball a little closer to compensate and it worked really well. Striking the ball well with good accuracy and shot shape. :)

That took half an hour then spent the next 3 hours on wedges and then the pitching green. Highly productive day for me in my quest for consistency.

I do recommend at some point people try to see their own swing on video, it certainly helps in assessing what's going wrong and what you could do to improve your swing.

Video swing is a must imo, it really helps you understand what your body is doing.

Were you just wedging the phone somewhere on a wall or something?

Videoing my swings was the best thing I've ever done!

I always take my camera now...I don't video everything, but I tend to warm up then start swinging like I think I should be, then video it and see if what I'm doing is right...Hit another 20-30 balls to get a rhythm going, then video a few balls towards the end to see if there's improvement.

Works wonders!

Our range is an outdoor one without a shelter over it. So you can park right up towards the barriers up next to the bays. So I rest my iPhone on the back of the car up against the rear wiper. Perfect height for a view looking from behind your swing looking up the range.

When they move us forward from the mats onto the grass bays it might not be able to focus as we will be 10 yards further forward. I'll have to devise an alternative method...

I don't like watching video nasties, so my swing will remain a mystery to me. :D

I had a lesson on Sunday and the Pro videoed my swing face on...what a revelation !

I never realised I moved laterally so much, my hips literally moved at least a foot between takeaway and striking the ball. This really helped me visualise what my body should be doing and trying to avoid my sliding hip movement.

I have videod my swing down the line wiith my phone before, but this really only tells half the story - I learnt much more face on.

When my pro said he was going to show me a video of my swing I expected to a praying mantis with extra limbs doing samba but actually I saw lots of positives.

Its always good to see what you are doing right as well as wrong! I had many good points, I just moved back to much during my swing and I needed to be over the ball a little more to steepen my swing.

I have had 3 now and comparing me Sept 10, Nov 10 and Feb 10 shows the progress I have made in my first season of golf. I was told I have a swing most single figure players would be proud of! While I am playing off 15!

Me too.... apart from noticing I had less hair on top than I thought  :o

Your suppost to video it from the back and side, not the top James!!! :D :D

I hated looking at myself on the video, good to see the swing but bad because im not as fighting fit as I used to be, if you know what I mean... ;)

I often look at my swing on video not only to see the swing itself but it helps a lot with simple things like alignment and posture. I use the V1 sotfware although there is a free GASP trial I've got too which is very good as well
