Unplayable ball

Maybe I'm thinking of when I see golfers on the TV do a drop. Would this only be because they are dropping from next to a temporary object?

.Possibly they were taking drop from an immovable obstruction or ground under repair.

Virtuocity, may I suggest you take a look through the A Quick Guide to the Rules of Golf to help you with these basics. It starts on page 11 of the Rules book which you can get free from your club if you haven't already got one.
