Unplayable ball rule 28

Indeed! And the effect/Penalty involved is the same too.

I actually believe The Stroke and Distance clause 27-1a would be better positioned as a named part of Rule 13 - Play The Ball As It Lies; Stroke and Distance rather than an unnamed part of Rule 27 Ball Lost or Out of Bounds; Provisional Ball (admittedly where most of its application lies).

TBH mate as long as I know what to do in a situation I couldn't care less on definitions or rule no's. In most cases it's likely to be play is it lies, you can't find it or unplayable lie, know what to do in those situations and you won't be far wrong.

Can we talk about nearest point of relief as opposed to best point of relief next ;)

Same thing isn't it? Just either declare it lost, or announce your Provisional as 'Reloading', hit it OOB and Drop it from beside the OOB marker, hit the next over Water hazard that bounces back into it and drop 2 within club lengths of last point of entry; hit it into a Lateral Water Hazard and watch it bounce 20 yards further, but drop within 2 clubs beside where you find the ball.

There must be dozens more of these 'nearly but not quite' applications of Rules performed every day on most courses! That's also the reason why Pros wait for the Rules Official, not only to see whether they might benefit from a favourable ruling, but to ensure that they are 'safe' as they are entitled to to whatever the Rules Official says is Ok - even if it's subsequently found to be incorrect!
