Ok chaps here it is. The Ultimate Texas Scramble bringing together the cream of golf over the years: Past vs Present. Players included in the Past team cannot still be plying their trade on either of the main tours and all players are selected in their pomp.

The scramble is being played across four rounds and four golf courses:

Augusta, Pebble Beach, Turnberry and St Andrews Old Course

So who would you have in your team and who would win? My selections would be:

PAST
Player
Niklaus
Ballesteros
Locke

PRESENT
Tom Watson
Woods
McIlroy
Donald

As for the winner...no idea but it would be great viewing!

Texas Scramble so each team needs a range of talents.

Past

Hagen - The arch competitor
Hogan - The "Ice Man"
Nicklaus - The "Man"
Seve - The genius

Present

McIlroy - The talent
Donald - Cool hand Luke
Bubba - Long, Long, Long - "We'll take this one"
Mickelson - King of the lob wedge

Sadly no room for Steve "13 Majors" Williams, hope the team's chances aren't affected too much.

:D:D

past

jack nicklaus
seve
ben hogan
jones

present

woods
trevino
mcilroy
bubba
there's too many to choose from but trevino would be there for his funny banter...he's still playign on the seniors tour right?

But would you need a short game with a choice of four shots? Bubba is an interesting thought. I considered him but thought Mcilroy and Tiger were long enough and brought other plus points. Trevino is definitely past!!!!!

True. If that lot can't hit the fairway and make GIR then there's no hope. It'll be down to accurate irons and great putting.

I guess you went for a Locke as a specialist putter in the past team. Good choice. Bob Charles of course springs to mind as another legend with the flat stick. Would Crenshaw qualify for the Present team?

Spot on mashie. Crenshaw is current and I'd be tempted to draft him in but who for???

Hogan
Jack
Seve
Gary

Vs

Rory
Luke
Bubba
Rickie

The Oldies - well because they were great.

The Young Guns - Rory and Bubba to fire it long, all of them to hit the green, Luke and Rickie to sink the putts.
Game over.

Hogan and Jack to get it there, Seve to perform any rescues and Seve/ Player/ Jack to sink the putts.

Simples

But that's just it for me a scramble at that level is surely a putting competition. Played the other day with a 12, 15 and 21 handicap we missed one GIR and that was at a stage when we needed to take specific tee shot on a par 3. Surely the Pro's will be hitting GIR!!!

Bobby Jones
Bobby Locke
Walter Hagen
Jack Nicklaus

Vs.

Tiger Woods
Freddie Couples
Luke Donald
Phil Mickelson

The modern day guys would win but only due to the fact that the game has changed so much. The legends of yester year would need a lot of time to adjust. Would be great watching though.

Of course they will - worst putter goes first to give the others the line. If 1 from 4 can't sink it then God help them

I would expect them to birdie the lot at least. Maybe eagling the par 5's.
With 4 drives and 4 approachs, you'd expect the Tour Pros to have no more than a few feet for birdie every time.

As others have said really comes down to putting.

Seve (legend)
Nicklaus (fierce competitor, great all round game)
Hagen (showman and loved a challenge)
Hogan (such a sweet swing)

VS

Westwood (hits fairways even if he won't win any popularity contests on here)
McIlroy (sublime ball striking)
Woods (in his pomp best holer out in the world)
Trevino (matchplay and mind game genius and could play a bit in his prime)

Jack Nicklaus- For his driving long irons and putting.
Johnny Miller- For his mid and short irons.
Seve- For his unbelieveable short game inside 100 yards.
Bobby Locke- For his putting.

VS

Tiger
McIlroy
Donald
Mickelson

Would love the old boys to win.

Bobby Jones
Bobby Locke
Nick Faldo
Jack Nicklaus

Vs.

Tiger Woods
Luke Donald
Phil Mickelson
JustOne

The other 3 would find the greens and I'd fancy my chances putting :) LOL
