Saw a guy at the range tonight, he had a set of what I would only loosely call irons.

Even the PW was a sort of hybrid, they were just so ugly looking.

Don't know what make they were but they made the Cobra progressive set look like a thing of beauty.

I know that aesthetics aren't a major factor for a lot of people, my Cobra FP's were purchased without a thought about their look, but I just couldn't use something that damn ugly. They looked so heavy and cumbersome too.

That Callaway square driver is an abomination. Picked it up to have a look at it in Nevada Bob's one day and I've been having bad dreams ever since. Still think that a brand new persimmon wood is the most beautiful golf club you'll ever lay your hands on. Shame most of us will never hit one or indeed see one again.

My dad used mizuno persimmon headed woods until a few years ago, he was subject to all the 1st tee jokes, he still hit them as far as anything. I aggree, beautifull clubs although the faces have almost fallen off his!

Cosworth,

The guy couldn't jit a ball for toffee-apples. He was topping & shanking it all over the place and after every cack shot was swearing like mad saying how golf is a shite game and how he is going to give up.

The only advice I can offer to such people is get a lesson, get a lesson, get a lesson.

Learning from books or watching others is good to a point but when there are such evident fundamental flaws it is the only way to go.

Of course I advised this to the guy as he said I make golf look so easy (I wish, lol!) when watching me. His oppinion was that lessons are a waste of money. He is entitled to his oppinion at the end of the day.........

Damn, think of all the money I have "wasted" going from hacker to competent ball-striker!

medwayjon,
the best advice you could of given him was that he should try fishing and if he insists on waving his arms about tell him to try fly fishing.

i do not understand these big chunky clubs they are ugleeee, i have recently purchased the cobra fp's 3-gw & they are sweet to hit even the long irons, we see on the golf channel pros talking a good game about hybrids but if pros are up against it they will pull out a long iron too shape a shot lets not be fooled the pros are getting payed to tell us to use them, play your own game not someone elses.......
