Just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about Tylney Park golf club. I'm looking to join a "proper" 18 hole course, played there once and liked it and the price seems reasonable and it's only 12 miles from home but don't know anybody there and wondered if anyone has any views about it. At the moment I am a member of a small 9 hole course and feel I have outgrown it but it's a very friendly club and not sure if I am doing the right thing by joining a club where I don't know anyone or much about it. Decision time and I need help please.

Not played it, although it can't be too far from my club. I know a few clubs in the area, if you let me know where you are based i may be able to recommend one.

Been a member there for 3 years & love it. It's built in parkland that was the grounds of Tylney Hall, an Elizabethan Manor House so plenty of large trees to avoid!

Other than comps there are no booked tee times & we see very few societies which means weekend afternoons are usually very quiet.

The clubhouse is err "basic" but that doesn't bother me, the beer & grub are very good & the course is IMO the best in the area, call the pro shop & ask if they'll give you a free or discounted round to have a gander.

There are 5 sets of tees but the blacks are probably just for better players (7017 yds) Normal qualifying comps are played off the white tees which are just short of 6500yds. There is also a driving range, putting green & practice area of about 120 yds with tiered green & bunkers for short game practice

For a new member getting a game is not usually a problem, either turn up for the weekend roll ups or do what I did & stand on the 1st & wait 'till someone turns up. If you don't have a handicap you will have to submit 3 cards before you can enter competitions then you can book them via the clubhouse computer or in the pro shop.

Let me know if you need to know anything else but you won't regret joining Tylney, it is a real beauty.

Many thanks for the replies, especially MikeB. I live in Sandhurst and have played most of the courses around here, Downshire, Sand Martins, Sherfield Oaks, Pine Ridge, Blue Mountain etc but Tylney seems to tick more of the boxes for me. I love the idea of being able to play golf on a whim and just turn up and play whenever. We played there a couple of months ago and the course was in perfect condition, couldn't fault it and I think I have probebly made my mind up to join at some point, it's just that I'm not good at making big decisions and sometimes need a push! Also was once thinking of joining another club (no names) and was advised by more than one person that it wasn't a very friendly club and you would have a job fitting in. Thats one of the reasons for this post, just testing ;)
