An opponent in a match yesterday had two tees pegs tied together with a piece of sting to reduce the chance of losing the active one. The rule for tee pegs is:

A tee is a device designed to raise the ball off the ground. A tee must not:
be longer than 4 inches (101.6 mm);
be designed or manufactured in such a way that it could indicate line of play;
unduly influence the movement of the ball; or
otherwise assist the player in making a stroke or in his play.

Could tieing two tee pegs together infringe the rule in any way, especially if the string was laid out to assist club alignment? :mmm:

The R&A Rules Dept have ruled that there is no problem with tees being attached by string, as this is a traditional use of equipment. However, they warn that the string must not indicate the line of play.

Oddly, the USGA Equipment Dept have ruled that they are an unusual use of equipment and are not permitted.
I gather they were not aware of the 'rubber winter tees' being used over here for umpteen decades.
