My missus had the winner at £1 each way. I don't think the money will make up for the unbearable smugness that has already descended on our house.
Who said anything about banning racing per se? Don't dramatise this, you get very few deaths throughout the racing calender in general but as soon as Aintree comes to the fore there is the smell of death immediately and we have 2 before the big race!
The horses are either not up to it which the trainers are culpable for or the track is still too tough.
The world has gone mad. We will have to wear full body armour to leave the house next.
Too many people jump on the bandwagon not knowing the full facts as usual. Horses love racing just like we love golf, nobody forces them to run and jump fences. What do people think wild horses do? stand still and eat grass all day?
Horses have been used in war and the police over many years yet not many people seem that bothered about that do they? Why? because it suits them.
Don't suppose any of the "the horses don't enjoy it" brigade happened to see the jockey less horse running in front of the pack quite happily taking on at least two fences before running off the track.
Great race and it looks like they may have got the safety changes correct
Won a few quid on Cappa Bleu in the each way market but nothing to get excited about
With rails on both sides of the fences until the run-off points it would be difficult to do anything else but 'run with the herd'.
Glad you agree that the safety changes worked.
Just trying to appeal to the masses with stupid language designed to get the weak willed and ill informed jumping on the next bandwagon.
Or the GuardianIsn't that a job description for a Daily Mail headline writer![]()
+1 Exactly, just trying to appeal to the masses with stupid language designed to get the weak willed and ill informed jumping on the next bandwagon.
I have been lucky enough to have ownerships in numerous horses and greyhounds over the years and have seen both sides. It's terrible when there is a fatality in either code with both owners and trainers alike being affected. On the flip side if a horse doesn't fancy running it doesn't matter how much you whip/kick, it ain't going to move.
If the liberals (who very rarely have any real animal interaction) get their way with horse racing you can guarantee they'll jump on the next available bandwagon.
I can't abide anyone that wants to ban anything just because they don't like it. Millions of people love the National so get off your high horses! Whatever the hand wringing liberals say, it will still continue so the argument is facile anyway.
How many old geezers have kicked the bucket when they've been on the vinegar strokes during a week-end trip to Amsterdam?
Jeez, you'll be asking to ban that next.

That is just plain silly.
I have not got a clue what a vinegar stroke is.
The Grand National was run by a bunch of chinless wonders,
