Looking for some advice please.
Planning a trip to Turnberry potentially but I wanted to know what the nightlife is like around there.

We are obviously only going for the golf and not expecting (or would want) a party town, but similarly, a large group of us don't want a quiet (and expensive) night in the Trump Turnberry Hotel.

So if anybody has been can you let me know if there's any life nearby with pubs/restaurants/bars, etc.?
I've tried to check online and can't seem to find anything.

Cheers

Turnberry is in the middle of nowhere. Nearest town is about 15 miles away in Ayr.

Had many a good summer in a friend's family caravan in Girvan in the early 80's, allegedly fishing, locals very nice and friendly. Small town with a few pubs

Ayr is a bigger town with more to see and do

I met my 1st ex in Girvan, she was on a day trip mystery tour, me and some mates were camping at the Jean's Croft caravan site 1962 , never liked the place since.:smirk:

Ha ha. I was "fishing" 81-84 at Bine Hill, that was the only way we could get the keys if we said we were fishing, which did occasionally before heading to the pubs to meet the local ladies 😋

Souter Johnies pub/resturant just up the road at Kirkoswald might suit if you just want a few pints and a meal. Highly recommended and not too dear.
Girvan is a ghost town now, Ayr is the best bet for some clubs and pubs. You would need a nominated driver though;) remember drink driving laws are stricter in Scotland. You are also in the middle of an average speed camera area so behave yourselves.

Turnberry is my favourite golf venue and the Ailsa my favourite course. Looking forward to playing the updated version at some point.

If you are going to go as far as Ayr I would suggest travel an extra 5 mins and hit Prestwick. Better choice of boozers/foodie places and all on one street so very suitable to a pub crawl from one end to the other...

Do you think Troon is better?

I haven't played Turnberry but have played Royal Troon and the Portland course a few times.

I do love Royal Troon, my favourite course. Many memorable holes, the Postage Stamp is probably as memorable as any hole to play in the world. Railway is one of the most challenging holes, the back 9 is very tough but enjoyable.

I know Turnberry is well liked but I would not pay the money being charged now, especially with who owns it now.

RT is far cheaper, and you get a round on two courses.

You could also play the Old and the New at St. Andrews for less than 1 round on the Ailsa.

Been a while since I have played both, I thought the Ailsa was better (i.e. I enjoyed it more) and would like to play again now the changes have been completed.

If you don't like the man then that's fair enough but he has put his money where his mouth is with Turnberry and Aberdeen

Look no further than The Wildings in Maidens.

About a mile & a half from the courses, great food, beer, service and reasonably priced. We always stay there on our annual trip.

1 nights stay and a game on both courses £199 before the end of March.
