Well, almost18 months after sending my deposit to play in the Trilby Tour, the day is almost here. Preston GC is the venue on Thursday but it looks like heavy rain for most of the round.

The process so far has been straightforward, although registering for the venue of choice as soon as the site was opened was probably not the best idea as everyone seemed to be doing the same thing and the site kept crashing half way through registration for about 45 minutes.

Clothes were ordered and delivered within four or five days but I was glad I went a size up as I had read that they were slim fit.

The proof of handicap is pretty strict as you have a TT template that has to be printed out on club headed paper with your CDH number and signed by an appropriate club official a maximum of 14 days before you play. Maximum handicap is 18 and then it is 3/4 so only 14 shots for the highest handicapper.

As long as I manage to get to the venue on time it is all systems go but not expecting more than 26 points if i'm honest.

Enjoy your day out pal. If you've never played Preston before its a really enjoyable course.

Fingers crossed the weather blows through for you.

Cheers. Played it about 6 weeks ago when it was a bit wet and was hoping for decent weather but going to get the opposite by all accounts.

Yes, registration one hour before and on tee 20 minutes before or DQ. There's always one, just hope it's not me.

I've done the TT thing a couple of times and loved the experience, will probably do it again someday.

I'm sure you will have a great time and I hope that you play well on the day.

Im sure the nerves will kick in on the first tee but as it's a gentle par 3 I hope to get off to a decent start.

Yes, John... 1st is a gentle starter... BUT... you then have the 2nd which I will help you with here... better left than right & no way near as bad as it looks.... Good luck matey

Enjoy it, pal. Sure it'll be a great day out regardless of what the weather does. Let us all know how you get on. I fancy a go on the TT myself soon. Good luck.

6am start from home this morning and it chucked it down all the way to Preston. Arrived in plenty of time for registration but the first drama of the day came when my mate, who was also playing, found that he had left all his irons, except his wedges, at home. He took them out to clean them last night and forgot to put them back in. Luckily, his caddy is a member at Preston and his clubs were in his locker but not the ideal start.

Did an interview on the first tee with the nice lady from Sky but when it came to the opening tee shot I was really shaking. Managed to get the shot away well and found the front third of the green but then went and three putted to register only one point. Despite all the forecasts the rain then stopped and we had decent weather for the rest of the round.

Didn't register a blob until the ninth when I chunked my second shot into the hazard but just could not get my putts to the hole, leaving seven just short when they were bang on line. Finished with 23 points which seems pretty bad but my overall game was a lot better than that. The round took 5 1/4 hours for a three ball but it certainly didn't seem to take that long. Not sure I would have thought that if the rain had persisted.

The live scoreboard is very good with everyone's scores after 9, 12 and 15 holes being shown as well as the top ten listed. This kept the interest going, especially for my mate who came in with 32 points and was only knocked out of the top ten when the third from last group came in.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the day and will probably do it again.

Great stuff John, how'd you do on the 2nd?

Ended with a six. Bit too far right off the tee so a nice safe lay up into 'the alley' ended in the middle of a bush on the right leaving the only option of a chip sideways onto the fairway, Chip on, two putt, perfect way to see the whole hole. No names but it was Paul who forgot his irons :D
