At least it means he will be less likely to win in November.
Some are saying the conviction is a guaranteed election winner.

I never even considered the possibility that he might actually become president again some day. USA is utterly broken isn't it? I thought we had it bad with Boris but Trump is next level.

Would jail time make a difference although I don't for one minute think anyone is brave enough to try and impose that
I read a little about the various options. Allowing for the necessary protection that would need to follow him in jail, secret service would have to be in there, it just would not be practical. There are different punishments but jail is not likely to be one of them.

In the UK, there used to be a rule that said you're not allowed to work as a prison officer if you had a criminal record.
Things are different across the pond.

Any chance that there will be a lenient sentence due to "previous good character"? :D
Apparently, prison time seems unlikely as this is his first offence.
However, he has 3 more trials to face when he'll be a convicted felon :)

George Conway a respected senior lawyer thinks he should see prison

The ridiculous situation is that he can still be elected president (and some say this makes it more likely and not less) but as a convicted felon he would not be allowed even the most basic security clearance. Not sure how that works.

It must be unprecedented

I think he is guilty as charged. But then again, is he doing anything different than a lot of other rich/powerful people? That's what gets up my nose.....if someone like me had done the same thing I would be doing time in jail. But I also think it is political. The thing I find funny (bad funny) is that he accuses the NY court of being stacked against him, but he was fine stacking the Supreme Court in his favour (Far Right). So he isn't against a stacked court, just a court that might be stacked against him.

It surely has to be a major weakness in the US justice system that judges are political appointees. Whichever side of the fence they sit, it's wrong. Judges, courts etc should have no political leaning.

Listening to a debate on the TV today apparently the Clintons were charged with the same offence and they were just fined.
What channel? Views are noticeably different on certain channels. I watch a fair bit of GBNews even though they push the Far Right side of things pretty hard. Lots of guests this morning moaning about how unfair the courts were.....and I think one guest sticking up for the verdict, but he didn't get a chance to say much.

That topic of the Clintons may have been this one......not the same thing evidently. Just depends on who you get your information from. https://apnews.com/article/fact-check-trump-clinton-payments-884462275128

That's what I've always said. You would think that everybody would want a judge to sit in the middle....not leaning one way or another to get the "fairest" hearing. Not so though.....people want things to go their way....that's what they think is the right way.

Comparing Trump's alleged proven ''hush money case'' and Clinton's is like saying that Trump and Biden both took secret documents home so both should be charged. Nonsense of course.
As long as Fox news, Oan and Newsmax keeps lying to the American people, Trumpism and the MAGA cult will never die out.
He even stole MAGA from Ronald Reagan who used it in 1980

Remember, this isn’t about hush money. This is about falsifying business records to disguise the payment.

This is what he has been found guilty of. The whole political slant is just diversion.

The “perfect call” to Raffensberger is clearly an attempt to influence an election and an election official and at trial will be 100% political.

People simply can’t be allowed to be above the law in the fear that prosecution may be political.

I don’t get it one bit. Greg in Fife nails it re the charges. But here you have an old man who slept with a porn star. Now let’s be right. Most men would be doing cartwheels at the thought of that. But only if you was single. He was married, his wife was at home with a four month old child. And yet it’s not the only porn star he has slept with. How can any woman put an X at the side of his name. I look at Trump and the message I keep getting is “ it’s all about me” not the Republican Party. If he is the best answer to Americas problems, to the Republican Party. America has serious serious problems. Irrespective of his views that it is political, He was tried by 12 of his peers on a Jury his defence helped to pick and he was found guilty.
He is an odious man.
He has literally been caught with his pants down.

I think the difference is that Hillary....and most other people caught making a boo-boo.....pay their fine, admit to screwing up, and on they go. Nothing....is ever....Trumps fault.

Not being political - I'm not allied to any political movement in the UK, never mind the USA.

Every last thing about him makes me want to vomit and I wish his party would get behind somebody else in their election, as you'd hope would happen in any civilised society.

But the coverage does my head in and plays into the hands of Trump and his supporters.
This from the BBC News app...

Why does an independent news report have to always tell us that, "Trump falsely repeated claims..."
They do it whenever they report on Putin too, like we're aren't trusted to make our own minds up so they do it for us.

To me it just gives these people the ammunition they need to suggest that there's a conspiracy against them.

The words of Bob Dylan from nearly 60 years ago ...

"While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
And goodness hides behind its gates
But even the President of the United States
Sometimes must have to stand naked."

Though it is assumed he was referring to Nixon, it seems more appropriate today.
great song, but it was written in 64 so surely it related to Johnson.
