Trolley bag or carry bag

I use a push/pull trolley whenever they're allowed.
In winter I carry as parts of course sometimes resemble the Somme.
Worst experience ever was when the carry bag strap came away and I had to carry the bag by its handle for 14 holes.

Thanks all for replying, it all makes perfect sense. Though I have a stupid question - is it possible to get a carry/stand bag that also fits a trolly.

Yes, but you really need to match the two really, eg my leccy trolly top bracket is shaped so that the legs of a stand bag fit into recesses to make a more secure fit.

Like the title says, what do you use and why?
I'm looking at getting a new bag to replace my cheapo carry/stand bag and am wanting a trolly bag but for the life of me I can't see why anyone would want to carry a bag around a golf course, or am I missing something.

I'm not entirely sure I understand. The fact you have a carry bag suggests you currently carry, which means, unless you are going to buy a trolley a well, you need a carry bag. Why would you want a trolley bag if you don't have a trolley?

If you carry: Get a carry bag
If you have a trolley: Get a trolley bag

What did I miss?

I sniff books too its not wierd

I have a stand bag on a 2 wheel cart at the moment, upgrading to a 3 wheel cart shortly

Not sure about a cart bag though mine sits lovely on my trolley unlike the mother in law who has a cart bag which continually twists round

'What are you doing with that book?'

'I'm sniffing it'

'That's weird'

See - maybe not to you or I it isn't. However we are in pretty good intellectual company as Bernard Levin admitted to being an inveterate and incurable book-sniffer

Feels like another thread to be opened - Curious Enthusiams - to which I'd post - Carrying my clubs because I like the feelling of attachment I get from feeling the clubheads in my right hand as I walk along

Ah OK... I have a carry/stand bag that use on a trolly, but it keeps twisting and occasionally jumps off the bottom, even with the two straps fastened around the bag.

I have a Ping Hoofer (name gives it away) carry bag that I stick on my trolley from time to time. If I know I'm going to trolley for a while (back is hurting) I'll take the strap off. It works fine though in the way I have found best to put it on (sideways) I lose access to a couple of the pockets - but that's no big deal - and it doesn't rotate or pop off the base :)

Carry bag all year for me. Takes more physical effort to get round the course and burns more calories. You might sweat a bit more but sweat is just a sign that you've put some effort in and makes you stronger/fitter for the next round.

I'd say by all means go the trolley route if the physical effort is getting in the way of you're enjoyment of the game, but if you are still able to carry the bag for 18 holes and enjoy the round then thats the best way in my opinion.

Carry and will probably carry until I physically cannot anymore.
Trolleys are for old men and those that need more mental crutches than is considered normal, "trolleys make me play better...." lol, read that again slowly.
I am not as fit as I could be and still manage to put in a full effort into every swing right round to the last putt on the 18th green, done 36 holes in a day numerous times. Charging, building, putting away, storage, cleaning, walking round directed traffic ways etc, why bother?

Best of both worlds, I have the H2NO Sun Mountain carry bag which has a "cart friendly base", this sits very sturdily in the sun mountain V1 speedway trolley. That way I don't have to switch bags if I want to carry (which I prefer) or trolley (which I'll do if it's raining or very hot).

^^^Indeed - no need to follow the trolley bag if you trolley carry bag if you carry. But if you do both? Fine if you can afford both but by chosing the right carry bag you don't have to have bioth types of bag. 'That doesn't look very good - carry bag on trolley' you might think they are thinking - let them think.

I have a huge cart bag for when I use the leccy trolley. Though I tend to fill it up with all sorts of rubbish, just because it has the capacity to take it. Though since getting the smaller car, the whole leccy trolley thing is a pain. So I've gone back to carrying for the time being.

A word on carry bags though. The lighter the better. Also when trying them out in the shop, be sure to try it with a whole load of clubs in it. Carry bags might feel great when empty, but when are you ever going to carry an empty bag?

Dual purpose carry and trolley bags might seem like a good solution, though they tend to be a bit on the heavy side for much carrying.

So we got to post 29 before the normal crap started - which was nothing to do with the OP either, excellent.

Looks like I am bang on context, he asked why, I replied, my justification in the second paragraph is crap now is it? excellent yourself!

Gotcha

That's the reason I bought my Stewart Z3 trolley last year. I wasn't sure if I would like using a trolley so wanted one that I could use with my stand bag and Stewart Guaranteed it would fit any bag, which it did. I now have a Titleist Trolley bag which also fits nicely too.

I use a mahoosive tour bag which I use on a trolley 75% of the time. It's good in this heat as I can get plenty of water etc in and I don't have to worry about lugging it around.

Have also got a GM pencil bag which I use for flying round 9 holes in the evenings or if there's a trolley ban which very rarely happens at our place.

As for the earlier thing of trolley's being for old people. I'm 23 and potentially playing 72 holes this weekend. If it's anywhere near as hot as it has been, I can't possibly see how carrying will not make you more tired and thus hinder performance. If you just play 18 once a week, you're right, any difference will be minimal - however, the last thing I want to be doing in my fourth round on Sunday afternoon is lugging a bag around. I wish I was as strong as you and didn't need my mental crutches ...

Not really, where did you give a valid reason?
You may consider 'trolleys are for old men' valid but it isn't. I'm trying to estimate how many people were slowly shaking their head when they read it.

The second paragraph "Charging, building, putting away, storage, cleaning, walking round directed traffic ways etc, why bother?"
Trolleys are more bother than they are worth when you look at it. I dont care who shakes their head, nor nods in agreement, its my opinion.

Yep, bought the bag new on sale at Xmas and picked the trolley up for £30 on fleabay, wager the set up cost less than many tour bags. It looks fine to me on the trolley, perhaps Gok Wan could put some sequins on it and then everyone would be happy.

;)

I disagree. Building? Seconds, it's a couple of catches not erecting scaffolding; putting away? ditto. Charging, yes that does take up the majority of my free time
