Looking for some new clubs and after trawling the net etc decided on ping G25 or mizuno jpx ez! Both supposed to be forgiven and easy to hit........unless your names Matt!

could not hit any of them for toffee and in the end my swing went pear shaped, I started to crunch up and get really tense :(

thought i I would try my own clubs and was just as bad with them too!

i have no idea why I was so bad and really disappointed my morning try out did not work out . Any feedback on why I behaved/performed in this way?

Sorry to hear that mate, you probably were expecting them to do all the work. I do not mean that in a negative way. I mean that because they were new and different you probably were not getting through them properly.

I agree Drawboy, was expecting nice easy contact and ball flight! I will try again next week I think because it may be more down to my performance/skill than the actual clubs!

going to play 9 holes after the footy to make sure I can still hit a ball

I reckon you were trying too hard, swinging too fast and there were too many moving parts. Always a problem I've had trying new clubs, the desire to smack them miles. I have always gone to demo days with the one intention of swinging within myself. Of course once you get a shiny in your hands that flies you then start getting quick again

Sorry to hear about your troubles, it's probably a good bet to go back to basics and not over think the poor shots.

If you can normally hit a good ball then I suggest you go through the list that I use.

1. Has my grip changed? Check and if not move on....
2. Is my stance the same? One of the things that goes wrong with me is not extending my spine at address which can lead me to top shots.
3. Have I changed and checked my ball position? It is so easy when hitting a lot of balls one after the other on the range to get sloppy in where to put the ball in your stance.
4. Has the swing changed? If I take the club away on too much of a inside path then I can garuantee a power draw or too straight back from the ball , a fade that bounces even further right on landing.

I know all of that sounds too basic but for me the answer to bad shots is in one or more of those four points.

Good luck in finding your form again.

Cheers for the help, really good advice :)

just back from playing 9 holes and things are back to normal! Was a bit bobbins on the 1st hole and my tee shot on the 2nd but on the whole nothing like I was this am!

I love how people can diagnose a swing fault from this

You were just swinging badly, timing was out, it happens.
An iron is an iron, you're not going to see much difference in any different types as they're all basically alike. Whilst woods and putters technology has moved on a lot irons haven't changed really since Ping invented the cavity back. All they change is the back of the clubhead which isn't the part you hit the ball with!
Save your money and jut regrip your current irons for a new feel and a light grip.

Really? Not much difference at all? I have an old set of Cleveland cg7 and I presumed ( may be wrongly)that the newer gear are a lot more forgiving, better distance and easier to hit!
