Tried some new clubs..

Same with John Letters... They flog it to everyone without any care as to whether it really is the most appropriate club for the player in question

But that doesn't make John Letters gear "junk"...the advice you might be given is "junk" but the product is not. I had a set of John Letters Trilogy irons a few years ago (still got them sitting in the loft as spares actually) and they were fine. No problems with them at all.

Same with any chain of stores, you get good branches and bad ones. Cambridge is, to me, superb but the Peterborough store is not so good (quality of staff not that they have ever tried to sell me anything I did not want to try). Sounds like Romford is one of the bad ones.

It's all opinion. To me it looks, feels and sounds cheap and tacky. So in my opinion it is junk. I can see why some are taken with it... but to me it has no value at all.

I would agree that some sales people are a little opinionated. A 21 handicapper might be a reasonable iron player and saying you need GI's is not always through. It all depends on personal preference. I am a high handicapper but love my MX300's and the shorter irons have certainly benefitted my game as I feel more comfortable with the extra feel.
I cant stress enough the importance of getting advice from a GOOD pro. His advice and your own preference and dedication to the game will play dividends.
Get professional advice and get the clubs both of you feel will work best and dont listen to the sales brochure.

I can strongly recommend the Cobra S3 irons. Perfect for low or high handicappers alike and one of the best looking clubs on the market at the moment
:p

I have these and love them, tried a few clubs and these gave me the best results, longer and straighter.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the guy in the shops attitude the OP clearly got on with the club. However there are so many good models out there my advice would be to try some more. I would never have looked at Clevleand until I hit their clubs at the Forest of Arden and really was impressed.

I guess at the end of the day its about what is right for each of us. We all know our own games, where we are trying to get to handicap wise and so buy accordingly. I'm guessing most of us if we had our hearts set on a make and model would take an awful lot of persuasion to change our minds not just "20 handicappers can't hit those" and would probably buy anyway and worry about it later. I know I have
