travelling with golf clubs advise please

I have in the past wrapped my towel in and around my woods then use a large elastic band below the heads to keep the towel in place, I also have a Nike flight bag which has a protective area that wraps around the club heads. I have used a broom handle before as well, but with the new woods, you can unscrew them from the shaft and put them inside the golf bag, then there is nothing to snap. Leave the heads inside the headcovers and the heads don't get scratched then either.

When wifey and I were on honeymoon we picked a hotel with a nice ceiling, as we were just going to take turns at looking at it.

But, y'know, each to their own n'that.

;)

Ask in the pro shop for some of the foam protectors that new iron set come packed in, then slot them onto your irons once in the bag, that and a couple of towels packed in and nothing moves.

I've used a soft case and while its starting to look a little battered now the clubs have always been fine. Make sure you get one with wheels!!!!! - not all soft bags have wheels and your arms will be dropping off at the airport without!

Never had my bag weighed at check in and I would bet that its never been close to 23 kg - more like 30.

Clearly a keeper this one - have a great time!

Clubs are more resilient then you might imagine and a soft bag will more often than not be enough for the trip!

Experience tip: If something does happen to them (shafts bent or snapped etc) check them at each stop so before you get in the taxi, when you get out of the taxi, when you check them in at the airport, when they come off the conveyor belt and so on otherwise you might have a problem with an insurance claim.

Similar to others - move all clubs to centre of the bag and wrapp a big elastic band round them to keep together, wrap my towel in and around the heads to stop them clanging about.

I also get a cheapo plastic waste paper bin and put over the top of everything and then put the rain hood over the top of the lot.

both AH and Elea are stunning, although Elea is a very young course and needs to mature.

also if you find a titleist with a purple dot in your villa's back yard thats my shank form my 1st tee off attempt. ;)

Always used a soft bag when traveling with my golf clubs. My dad has one that has a hard shell at the top of the bag which protects the heads of the woods from blows. Other tip with irons, especially if you don't have separate head-covers is to place a towel in between each iron to make sure they don't rub against each other and scratch.

I use a soft bag , what i do is put the driver & 3wood in the middle of the bag, stand a golf shoe up either side (im size 9) of the driver to support it & wrap a belt or tie around it to keep them in place ,, bung a towel in around the iron heads ...

Just one thing and maybe its a myth but i do it , check the clubs before you leave the airport to make sure they are all there & not damaged , if you leave the airport you may have no comeback on missing or damaged clubs

Depends on your insurance, if you have valid home or travel insurance covering them specifically then you'll have a claim regardless. If you are trying to claim the airline that is another kettle of fish.

Both me and HID have cheap soft ones. One bought and one given to us by the company we booked our flights through which was a nice touch. I was sceptical at first as to whether they'd hold up but both have admirably. The advice of cutting up the foam inserts that come when you buy a set of irons is good advice as is the idea of getting bags with wheels, I've got short arms and want to keep them that way.
The only other comment I'd make is that whilst you can pack clothes, balls and shoes into the soft case for padding and weight allowance use, I'd always take a second pair in my hand luggage as you can buy shorts and shirts, hire clubs etc but wearing someone elses shoes never works for me.

i've just got back from spain and on the way out my john letters soft travel bag burst at the seams.
had to wrap it up with duck tape for the flight home.
think i'll be getting a hard case next time

If you travel often, the Club Glove is by far the best type of bag. That will not burst. I have never used one of the arms or broom handles in mine, but I often put some laundry in around the club heads on the way back.
