My battery has been getting a bit sluggish recently at the end of a round (our last 2 holes are slightly uphill)

I'd heard that totally discharging the battery / running it until flat improves the ability to hold a decent charge.

So I raised the trolley's wheels off the garage floor, and set the trolley "running" at 6pm last night , expecting it to die quite quickly.

Still going at midnight... and this morning!

I know that the wheels are not having to move any weight but their own, but I'm amazed that is so much juice left in the battery but it could only make the trolley crawl up the very last hole.

if it's a lead acid battery you will do more harm than good doing this.....

Oh heck.

* goes off to disconnect*

don't panic Mr Mannering - not harm as in damage.

there really isn't a lot to lead acid batteries - fully charge asap after use with a good charger, store in a warm dry place and, if they aren't sealed for life, check the electrolyte levels from time to time.

LioN, NiMh, etc have memory issues (different for each) which may benefit from full cycling depending on construction and use.

It was dead by the time i went out (into the garage ie not a warm dry place!)
It's now back on charge and we'll see how it performs on next outing on friday.
Using Mr Mimm's battery for this afternoon's golf!

best tip is do not leave in the boot of the car the night before you play, the cold will help discharge faster

As said do not fully discharge it will damage the plates / cells and will never be any good
