Just wondering if anyone has played this course and what is it like, as I have never played there and the website makes it look okay? We play different courses and this came up whilst looking at courses I have not played in Essex last night.

Thinking of doing a client day there, so would need to be :-

1) Fairly forgiving as I have a range of handicappers going from low singles to above 36
2) Not to much rough to reduce looking for balls
3) Does not play that long (looking at the summer months so should be harder fairways)

Does it fit in with these and do you think it is okay for such a group ?

Thanks for any help.

I've played it a couple of times and definitely the pick of the area. Much better than Blakes,Canons Brook, North Weald and Nazeing. It's been a while but i remember it to be fair, not too long and ideal for mixed ability group. Very well presented and great staff.

I agree with the above.

We have a group of us from my club in Suffolk go down and play it a couple of times a year. Never found it in anything less than decent condition, nice variation in holes, friendly locals. Definitely one of the better courses in Essex.

the other course they own is cranham.

it ticks all your boxes

it's cheap for one about £18 a round

we played a society day their in the winter (last week) excellent drainage .. it's very open with little rough so that's little chance of lost balls

ive played many rounds in under 3 hours 20 mins there even when packed

lots of par 3s (6 in total) so chance for the high handicappers to score however some water around them so challenging for some.

doesnt play long the par 5s are under 500 yards and most par 4s are like 320 yards average

From what I remember, it will tick all of your boxes. I played there when I first started playing and struggled breaking 100, and although I do not remember a great deal of it, I know it didn't scare the living daylights out of me (like some courses have), so it should be fine.

As a side note, I play at the aforementioned Cranham weekly, in which they are owned together, and it is the best draining course all year round, with minimal rough/out of bounds, and some tricky water laced holes.

I'm sure you will enjoy Toot Hill!
