Myself, Homer, HTL and Leftie headed down to Lydd Golf Club for a game today.

We had absolutely gorgeous weather with us wearing shirt-sleeves for much of the day so yes, lovely to see spring arriving.

Lydd was a very good course in my view, a very tough challenge with many penal bunkers and numerous water hazzards.

The greens were nothing to look at visually but they were very true and played well.

Lydd also has a driving range putting green and green for pitching so impressed with that.

Today was £25 each including a full english which is truly 10/10 for value, absolutely excellent and midweek, they do the same for £72 per 4-ball, incredible.

Anyway, todays action.

The stableford comp went to the final hole with 3 winners, myself, Leftie and Homer all coming home with a very respectable 32 points apiece.

The 4-ball better-ball was halved on the final hole thanks to a sublime checking chip and putt from a certain person ;)

All-in-all it was a great day with excellent company and I cant wait to do it again.

It was a good day fella, shame I fell apart every time I was within 100 yards form the pin, and got frustrated, could have kept up when you guys pulled away.

I was leading up till half way! Think I do need to look at electric trolleys as my tiredness did affect me.

Was funny how as the game went on "gimmies" were getting less and less and chat between Kent ans Surrey declined.

Before any one worries why Homer has not been on in two days, he has taken HID for a weekend away. He buggered off all day to play golf and left her shopping.

Looking forward to a rematch!

Thats competition for you, but all in good spirits.

Was bricking down the last as I knew that I realistically had to make a 4 for the stableford and the match but held it together in the end.

You should use that driver a bit more often as it went well today.

Definately up for a re-match, Perhaps we could get 2 or 3 4-balls together as at that price, it was truly outstanding value and well suited to a big meet-up.

The welcome was very friendly all bar the lady who took the breakfast order who was a little grumpy but apart from that, excellent.

Really glad we had good weather and looking forward to getting down to Lydd again, I have a feeling it will be rather soon!

True the driver went well, but im still not confident with it. Will stick with it over the next few weeks and try and build upon it.

Fancy a long drive comp next time ;)???

Off to the club tomorrow to work on my 100 yard and in game.

Yes. It was a great day enjoyed by all. Well done Jon for finding such good value and for organising it.

I'll leave the blow by blow details of the match to Homer - after all, after a weekend away with Mrs H without his keyboard he will need something to write about ;) ;)

I've got a couple of photos that I'll put on once I've worked out how to do it )

Not for the faint hearted :)

1st Tee trepidation or watching Leftie's opening drive ??

To explain....

As Homer teed off on the first there must have been a sudden strong gust of wind as his ball suddenly turned left and flew over the dyke down the left of the fairway and into the adjoining sheep field. After playing another, Homer proceeded to walk along the bank seeminly conversing with the sheep and not only were that talking back to him but he was taking photos of them :o I don't think that we need to see those photos Homer, thank you.

As we were about to tee off on the second, Homer suddenly went walkabout. He found a way over the dyke back into the sheep field and proceeded to go back and find his ball.

Never let it be said that Homer gives up a lost ball easily. :)

Pics loading (including the scary sheep looking for a piece of me down the 3rd) so a report to follow in due course

You had a bloody conversation with that sheep! It looked well confused walking away. And they say the Welsh have a thing for sheep :o.

I was trying to persuade it not to come over the small stream. You wouldn't hve seen the mad look in its eyes (being in the rough on the other side of the fairway). I was desperately trying to play my shot and trying to remember if sheep crossed water!! I thought if he comes all his mates would follow.

Down to business.

I have to start with the company. I met HTL in the carpark and wandered onto the range where Jon was limbering up. I was busy trying to phone the wife to see if I had left my swing in the B&B when Leftie arrived. After a bucket of balls each we retired into the neat and tidy clubhouse for the breakfast included in our green fee. Attilla the Hun took our order (she was not a happy lady) and we retired to the conservatory.

The strangest thing was that even at 10.30 on a Saturday we were the only ones in the clubhouse. There were 30 or so cars in the car park but we never saw anyone arrive or tee off. We eventually mooched over to the 1st and after twisting Jon's arm decided to sneak off the whites in the Kent v Surrey challenge.

The Kent boys both hit great shots down one with Leftie only being some 30 yards short on the 262 yarder. HTL found water and I then hit a snap hook that cleared the river running down the side. HTL and I took drops and hit the green and after the Kent boys went through with their approaches we got away with a half. I managed to hit a decent hybrid from 184 on the 2nd to win the hole and a we knicked the 3rd.

We were 3 up after 6 but Leftie made a good par at 7 to reduce the gap but we knicked the 9th to be 3 up at the turn. However Leftie produced a great tee shot on the par 3 10th to about 6 foot to win the hole and then Jon started to find his game and with shots on several holes the gap was soon eroded. HTL had a bad run of holes and I decided to lose two balls on the 12th for the match to go to only 1 up to Surrey. Jon got the match back to all square with a win at the 16th but cometh the hour and on 17 HTL bombed a huge drive down the middle. Jon and I decided to revist the 11th and stuck drives into the fairway bunker on the 11th fairway and by the time we had got back onto the right hole we had missed HTL follow the drive with a huge 5 iron onto the green for a par (net birdie).

Everyone hit great drives down 18. Jon Leftie and HTL all went short and left into GUR while I hit a 177 yard 5 iron that just caught the slope at the front and rolled 10 yards back off the putting surface. Jon then produced a great chip inches from the hole for a 4 nett 3 to half the team event. I hit an iffy chip to 6 foot but hold the putt (the only decent one I got all round) and when the scores were added up Jon, Leftie and I all had 32 points to share the spoils with HTL a couple further back.

The deal we got for £25 per head including breakfast on a dSaturday is superb value. The course is an inland linksy type of track and although the greens didn't llok great visually they putted well and were quick. The downside was the fact that there are no real reference points to pick out as a target off the tees and it is hard to know eaxactly how far the water intruded and whether it is poosible to carry it when standing there. A case in point is the par 5 15th (498 SI5). According to SC the water was in play at 184 yards and so we all laid up short. It was only when we got to the shots we realised there was more room left and that the water would have been easily carried.

It is a good test of golf and the facilities were pretty good although the range mats could do with updating. Its well worth a visit.

Good pics mate, gotta say my clubs look proper sexy in that last pic!

If only I didnt fold like a right tart after half way I could have put up a real challenge!

Next time, victory will be mine!

Well done Homer. Good report.

I'm glad you came clean about the sheep. HTL was getting rather concerned that an Englishman had scored with them whereas a true blooded Welshman hadn't.

Do you know, in all the times I have now played with MWJ, I've never noticed the peacock trying to get in his ear. :p

He does seem to be enjoying the experience though.
